The Tower of Pisa (180 feet in height) was begun in 1173 and, due to its faulty foundation on unstable soil, leans precariously more than 14 feet out of line, preventing visitors from climbing its 300-plus steps to the top.

We booked the first tour of the day and had the place to ourselves and just 2 other couples. Very surreal as you start walking up the stairs and the views from the top are incredible. It got very busy just an hour or so afterwards. If you hate crowds as we do then I recommend booking an early slot.

Note: I traveled here in May, 2014. The first 24+ years of my life, I was told how great, read and was shown a ton, about the Leaning Tower of Pisa. Really, it was so visually shoved into me, I had great expectations when going to see it. It was a complete and utter let down. For starters, the tower... More

What a fantastic place. We arrived very early in the morning after getting off of our cruise liner. This was very quiet, making it ideal to get around very easy. It makes you wonder how it keeps standing. After we left the site there was a small street market selling evrything you might need to remember your visit there. Just... More

We spent most of our day in Pisa today visiting all the cool bldgs and the Pisa tour. This was an awesome day. This was impressive and really worth it. We walked from the train station (easy) and spent the lunch time around the area. If you are in Italy this is a MUST. Plse visit G

Went there twice, once in afternoon which was very crowded and the second time was during early in the morning. Preferable to come early in the morning or else face the crowd!

If you're in Tuscany and you don't make time for the Leaning Tower of Pisa shame on you. It's free to see and around €18 to enter and climb the steps to the top. Make time, I promise you won't regret it.

We took a train from Florence. It's a must see if you are in the area. Easy to get to from the train station.

If you visit Pisa then I suppose you have to do it! But book ahead, numbers are very limited and as you would expect, it attracts a vast number of visitors

Lovely day taking in the leaning tower, Field of Miracles, Cathedral and Baptistry. The leaning tower takes a bit to get a photo of that makes it look as you see it with the naked eye. Many photos make it look like it is straight.
