Piazza Napoleone is a big square located in the center of Lucca, a city in Tuscany Region, in Italy. Really it is very big (probably the biggest one in the city), and when we visited the city (in August-2019) there was a little openmarket, which was nice. Good place to walk, if you come to the city. Also, I came with my daughter 3 years old in this moment, and she played in the center of the square. Also good for her.

Was fortunate to be in Lucca for the Luminaria di Santa Croce - Festival of Lights in September 2016. Was totally amazed to see how the votive candles were set in place prior to the festival. The lighting of the candles and hours long procession of the faithful was wonderful to see. So glad we were able to witness this festival.

Celebrations of the Americans liberating Italy during the second World War were going on while we were there. The square was filled with old vehicles, soldiers and motorbikes

This Piazza is not as popular as the Piazza San Michele - but in some ways it is more pleasant. More locals are here - there are trees with give shade and there are a larger variety of cafes from which to choose to have an aperitif. A great place for caffe in the morning or wine in the afternoon (or gelato). It is cordoned off somewhat in July for the big music festivals - so enjoy it most thoroughly in June or August.

Piazza Napoleone has got to be the best location ever for concerts, we were here to see Stevie Wonder and then The National, It is an amazing place to take children to see concerts, lots of space for them to run around and if the music is a liitle too full on for them you can take them for a wander.

Very nice square in Lucca, I think it is the largest in the city. There are a lot of restaurants around it, there is also a big palace. The evening is quite lively.

We went to see Take That at the summer festival which is held in a June/July and has some good names. The concert is outdoors and set up in this square. The atmosphere was amazing as were Take That. Plenty of big names including Elton John and Sting are also playing later on at the festival. Will definitely be coming back. Lucca is a beautiful old town, gorgeous food and lovely people.

Travelling to Lucca festival in July. Staying around 30 min walk from Piazza Napoleone and want to know if there are bus routes and taxi's after the event.
Written January 29, 2017
I always stayed in the middle of the town. Think to have seen taxi's around so I guess it won't be a problem. Enjoy your stay! Leave the piazza Napoleone in the south side (where traffic is allowed) and you will find a taxi.
