Also called Piazza Grande by the local population but bears its current name from Napoleon's sister who ruled over the city of Lucca in the 19th century. This square is very nice but it feels big when compared to the small alleys and squares that dominate other parts of the old town. The square was created with the aim of being a seat of political power with the Palazzo Ducale as the main institution. Today it is a lively square lined with trees, trattorias, people at outdoor cafes and many cultural events.

Considering the city of Lucca is so beautiful, this is a rather bland empty square in the South East of the city. Probably not worth visiting unless there is a special event like the festival.
