Hickery dickery dock. Great place, time your visit to be at the top on the hour.

We visited the tower as part of a 3 ticket deal which included the Guingi Tower and Botanical Gardens. Don't forget to chose the time you visit. This was our favourite tower, it was certainly not as busy as the Guingi, it is higher and you have the bonus of the bells at the top. As with our review of the Guingi, no history just our observations/advice. First thing first, its worth the visit, we loved it up their, shaded on top, great views, less visitors (we had it to ourselves for half of the time we were there) and the bells (more about the bells later). Finding it - I know this sounds odd, because it is one of the tallest buildings in Lucca, but you do have to look for it. At street level the entrance is very discreet. So pay attention, its straight forward - we used the Google Map App on our phone, but it is a low key entrance. Effort - It's a tower, it is one of the tallest structures in Lucca, so you do need a certain level of mobility and fitness but as we have said about Guingi - don't be put off. Take your time and visit it. Head for heights - as before, unless you're a genuine vertigo sufferer you'll be fine. Guingi vs dell Ore - which one if you can only do one? We would do the dell Ore, for us we found it the nicer tower, less visited, great view etc Those bells - time to point out the obvious - this is a clock tower, that means that one of the bells chimes the hours on the hour. You are standing directly under the bell, so you will get to experience it. It is NOT too loud and if you monitor the time on your watch/phone you can plan it and capture it on your phone/camera/video/GoPro. We enjoyed that, it makes for a very atmospheric video, starting with the bell being struck and panning out across the city - your chance to be Frederico Fellini. Don't forget, on the three site ticket you're asked to chose the time of your visit here, so you can plan this.

We climes this the day after climbing the more famous Lucca tower, it is much smaller but still has interesting information along the walls during the climb. The views from the top are just as special, but there were way less people which was a treat for sure. One thing to know is that you actually can not buy your ticket here, you buy it at the other tower.

Climbing the tower was on my list of things to do in Lucca and it didn't disappoint! Entry is 5 euros, or a combi-ticket 9 euros which includes the Torre Guinigi (the one with the trees) and the Orto Botanico (Botanical Gardens) and is valid for 2 days.
On the climb there are boards displaying the history of the tower, and other towers in Lucca and information regarding the clock. The stairs are very substantial and it's a relatively easy climb. The clock strikes on the hour and every quarter, so remember that if you are at the top at that time.
Fabulous views, well worth the climb

Plus you can see the internal mechanism of the clock. I happened to be heading down when the bells started ringing! Thank goodness. Not crowded like the Torre Guinigi with the same view except you will see the Torre Guinigi from up high!

There is little that has not been said about Lucca and its multiple attractions but thought i would drop this in. We hesitated a bit before paying the 5 euro each to climb the tower particularly with my metal knee but , what the heck .Made it to the top and wow!! Fantastic views and not a hard climb at all even when 30+ in the shade .

We climbed this tower straight after the Guinigi tower and it’s hard to pick a favourite. The steps in this one are narrower and this makes it hotter on a hot day and more likely that you will have to pause and let someone pass - but that gives you the chance for a surreptitious “breather” if you need one. And the fact that you are surrounded by good solid brick almost all the way up might make it preferable for someone who really doesn’t like the slightly more exposed feeling at the top section of the Guinigi.

As many others have noted, the 🔔 is LOUD if you are next to when it rings but fine if you are a little way below. On our day it was ringing every quarter hour so we timed our “summiting “ accordingly.

If you only do one tower I would say do this one to get the view of the Guinigi and it’s trees. But then again, standing under those trees is special too. OK, I can’t decide; if you can, do both.

It really is worth your time to do both towers! But watch out for the chimes! They are _really_ loud, and I almost dropped my phone over the edge when they rang!

The highest tower in the medieval Lucca was acquired by the local government in the 15th century to house the public clock. It is open for visiting and you can admire the mechanism of the clock and enjoy the beautiful views over the city.

We paid for the guinigi tower and got this tower for a few euros more and we actually preferred this tower. The views are amazing and the clock mechanism is fantastic, the bell actually went off whilst we were up There and it’s very loud.

Torre delle Ore offers a stunning panorama of the city from its top, and also some insights into the history of Lucca and the clock. You can also check out the clock mechanism.
