The street itself i snothing special, but you enter the city through the old city gate and you are in another century.

For a taste of local Lucchese life this is a place to pass through. Nice local restaurants and a couple of souvenir shops in the vicinity. It is close to the eastern side of the city walls, and is perfect for an evening stroll.

This is one of the city gates that you drive through or walk through to enter old Lucca, The Medieval city. Once you wander in, you feel transported back in time.

The two-part street, going from the Piazza Varanini to Via della Rosa, is named after the moat (“fosso”) that goes adjacent to the road at the south side of the street and was once an additional protection along the walls that surround the city. It is a nice walk with some great views, especially at the splendid garden of Villa Buonvisi.

There is so much to see and feel on this street that you can't walk down it without flashing back to the days when it was built. It's a great time warp.

our apartment was just round the corner from here so we went a few times. the port gates are very impressive, don't forget to look up at the painted vault ceiling. my favourite bit is the small river, surprisingly abundant in life. i counted five species including many brown trout. so, if you want to relax i recommend getting a take away coffee, sitting on a small bridge and watching the fish

A really nice walk along a historic, picturesque street with lots to look at and admire. Lucca is full of history and beauty and this is just one of many examples.

Our rental apartment is near the far end by porta San Jacapo and we ride our bikes along Via Fosse numerous times a day. I enjoy watching the water levels change.....the pigeons bathe.....people sitting on its walls talking and enjoying life.....flowers blooming out of the walls.....listening to the water flow.....less traffic to bike through and the fountains at several places to fill your water bottles in....

One of the delightful aspects of Lucca is that eveything is old, or at least it looks old. So, the buildings have been converted to modern uses, but they still retain their original character.

This district is famous for the old city gate (which looks like it was built in about 1400 or so) and the streets are narrow and bordered primarily by Renaissance era structures. Lots of stores, restaurants, etc..

The most interesting thing on this street are the doors to enter the old town. Otherwise, the street consists of two parts.
