This is a quiet little gem in the Little Venice part of Livorno. It's about a 10-15 minute walk away from the cruise port (with little canals all around). It's tempting to bypass this part of Livorno, heading straight to the station for Florence and Pisa - but don't. Use any spare half hour to get here.
The church is small, charming, peaceful and touching. It doesn't have the grandeur or sculptures of the main tourist cities, but has a genuine religious authenticity about it (despite the clever painted on depth to the fresco walls). Several little installations to discover. Check out the section at the back, partially curtained.

This is a short walk from the main information area/square where the shuttle drops you off from the port. It does not look like much outside, but inside its gorgeous. Free to enter and to walk around. Look up at the dome and all the paintings. It is small, but definitely worth a short visit. If you go to the right side of the main alter, you can enter a small area with some artifacts and behind the alter.

We were on a cruise and had done the Pisa and Florence tour in the past so decided to have a look round Livorno and had a wander round the Venezia district with its canals and came across the Santa Caterina Church which we thought was stunning. There were various altars round the church with paintings and sculptures. It obviously is in need of money being spent on it but don’t miss it if you are visiting Livorno.

Very pretty on the inside, shame it is not often advertised, I recommend it to go at least once. Nice to see.

This is a cute little baroque church that we could see from the new castle park so we decided to walk to it and check it out. The architecture is very contrasting with the dome being a markedly different style than the lower level construction. Very beautifully painted inside. We spent about 30 minutes here. Free!

In my view the inside is even more beautiful than the duomo in Florenz, the dome is majestic and I just stood there for nearly 30 minutes in awe.

Check the exquisite "black" Madonna and its ritual. St. Vincent has been moved around to make room for Santa Caterina di Siena.

What looks a nondescript building from the outside is totally transformed once you walk through the doors. Very peaceful and ornately decorated, took the opportunity to pray and light a candle. A very moving experience.
