Almost all of the previuous reviewers who have preceded me have drawn the "Park Montececeri" as an excursion from Fiesole to Fiesole, ie which forces you to make twice the same way (some have even spoken of the Park confusing it with other places in Fiesole; so that, for example, they haven't found the summit of Monte Ceceri, where Leonardo da Vinci has conducted his experiments on human flight).
Here I would like to point out that you can make also a circuit that starts from Florence and arrives in Florence, instead of forcing you to do two times the same route. It's a bit challenging (calculate from 3 to 3.30 hours), but for those who have time is recommended.
The route in its first half reaches the summit of Mount Ceceri, starting from the central square in Fiesole, Piazza Mino (which is also the terminus of bus No. 7, coming from Florence). From there you should follow Via Giuseppe Verdi (at the beginning there is a brown tourist sign, marking the path). When you have reached the park, inside there are both panels with maps (in Italian and English), both signs.
Keep in mind that the Park's highlights are (apart from the views), at least three: the summit of Mount Ceceri, where Leonardo did indeed fly to an his assistant, apparently happily over a thousand meters away; the quarry "Braschi", a spectacular example of quarry with underground extensions (similar to the famous "Latomie" in Syracuse, Sicily); the quarry "Sarti" (main example of totally open air quarry).
To fulfill the second part of the route you need, from the summit of Mount Ceceri, search for the path no. 7 of the Italian Alpine Club (showed, as all these paths, from red and white signs), which gets off to the village of Maiano and from there to the neighborough "Salviatino" (Viale Augusto Righi), again in the City of Florence.
For more information on the path you can google "sentiero 7 Montececeri" ("sentiero" means "path"). This will lead you to a website by the Province of Florence, only in Italian (but you can use an automatic translator) that allows you to open a page about this path. On the page a GPX track file is also available .
The last part of the trail (from Majano in Salviatino, about 1 km) is the least enjoyable, because it is on an asphalt road (even if the traffic is not very intense). but it is worth to bear it, because at the end of the trail you find a square where is the terminus of the bus no. 11, which takes you back to the center of Florence.
It's interesting to note that in this square there is also the main Youth Hostel in Florence, the Hostel "Villa Camerata". So the Hostel's guests can easily take this path (even in reverse, ending in Fiesole, but attention: in this case it's uphill!).

We have been here often from Florence. Purchase bus tickets at the tobacconist in the Piazza at San Marco and walk down the street coming from the north, going away from the Academia, and wait for bus number 7 which leaves about every ten minutes. It is a short ride up to Fiesole, the views from the hiking trail, also number 7, marked by small red and white signs, are magnificent. On weekends there are often booths in the square near the bus stop where you can get a really good sandwich. Take your picnic on the trail and look over the vistas from where Leonardo dreamed of flight.

The free map of Fiesole lists 3 walks which I highly recommend. One is titled "The Stone Masons and Leonardo". The walk in its entirety is about 3 miles long, partly paved but solid trails in the park. It is however suggested that you be prudent because many signs warn of steep drop offs. It takes you through quarries of Pietra Serena used by the stone masons. You pass a storage shed for tools and to shelter the workers when needed loosely assembled in Roman times of rocks. And other remains of storage spaces. Leonardo had an olive grove there and tested his Flying machine in 1506. The walk through the park is very pleasant and some uphill to deat with but manageable.

The Parco di Montececeri is one of our favourite walks from the Pensione Bencista. Shaded from the sun, the climb is in places steep but the view over Tuscany from the small piazza with the monument to Leonard da Vinci is spectacular. Follow the path down that leads to the upper reaches of Fiesole and ultimately the Piazza Mino.

Wish we would have seen honest reviews of this walk. The most I read was it was difficult but that didn't touch what this really was. Aside from the views and being out of the city in nature this hike was far more than we bargained for. It was supposed to be only 2.5km and I'm guessing had the trail been marked it would have been, however you have no markers to follow and find yourself facing many decisions along the way which we can only assume we picked wrong. Then to end it all at the place of the first flight you find nothing more than a carved stone, trees have over grown where we would assume the clearing may have been. I don't mean to detour anyone, just know this is a true hike and not an easy one. Also, at the other end we think there may have been colored stripes on the trees designating paths but no one we asked really knew....

We visited Fiesole to see the Duomo and the Etruscan remains, and then walk back to Florence. When we got there we found that the tourist office had maps for local walks. Feeling somewhat sated with art and culture we walked instead. The park is tranquil, interesting flora and fungi, and offers splendid views over Florence. We lunched in the cafe at the top left on the square where the house Chianti was excellent and very good value for money. Beware! We had planned to walk back into Florence but having already walked and then lunched decided to return by bus. By then the kiosk selling bus tickets had closed and the bus drivers were unable/unwilling to sell us tickets. An alternative source of tickets is located in a tobacconists on the right of the main steet about 500m up from the square.

Picked up a free local map from the tourist info just along from the archaeological site entrance. There are 3 suggested walks and we went on the 2.5km walk to Monte Cesari. The walk takes you up through quiet lanes and then lovely pine trees where there are great views in front of an old quarry.
From here you can either head back to the centre of Fiesole or walk down to gate C which is located 50m from a bus stop into Florence. We decided to walk back into Florence along quiet back roads which takes 1 to 1.5 hours depending how fast you walk.

There could be a few more signs to help the hiker out. Some of the trails are very long and it's easy to get turned around.
I used to live just off the trail head and spent many hours gathering pine nuts and wild asparagus in the woods.

This was our last day, last trip before we left Tuscany in October. The weather was perfect, which helped a lot the overall impression - when it comes to 'nature attractions' you need good weather to really appreciate it. The park is easy for walking (no climbing required), quiet, well mapped so you know where you are or what you see. There are some very nice etruscian remains (see photos I attached). You can also get on rock, simply by walking, which is the highest point of the whole park - from the is very nice view to whole park and its surroundings. Its better not to hurry in the park, to take at least 2-3 hours for it, possibly more - there are more places from where you can have very nice view down, some benches where you can sit, eat perhaps, and enjoy the nature, the view, the quieteness around you. In overall definitely worth a visit.

Good day trip from Florence. We packed sandwiches and took a bus from Florence to Fiesole, then walked up and down the hills. Park has wonderful view of Florence. Sat on a bench, had lunch and enjoyed the view. Well worth the trip.
