This is the central square of Fiesole where the #7 bus from Florence lets you off. The cathedral is there and the entrance to the Teatro Romano is just off it. On Sundays there is often a market in the square with some interesting vendors selling a variety of things both for tourists and locals. We bought some cheese and olive oil here that were great.

Took the no 7 bus from Florence to visit the hillside town of Fiesole and its Roman Amphitheater, baths, temple, churches, Bandini museum and incredible view of Florence, When you get off the bus in Piazza Mino de Fiesole square, there are a variety of things to see immediately behind you to the west is a fair view of Florence from the assorted bar and coffee shops verandas, or you can turn left and head north across the square to a large stone building with a ramp walkway going uphill on its left side this is the start of Via San Francesco, and you have to climb it to the very top for a fantastic view of Florence. Once there you might as well climb the rest of the way and visit the San Francesco monastery. On the eastern side of the square you will see the signs for the Roman and Etruscan ruins, which after a few hours seem to blend in to a lot of historical stone ware. Once you have finish climbing around here, I suggest that you proceed back to the square and have lunch
TIP: Suggest the Café' al N5 under the lime trees on the left side of the square. You can see the bus stop from here.

We visited on a cloudy day in mid February. Took the 7 bus from Florence. We were shocked at how empty the piazza was and how many restaurants were closed at 1:00 PM. Even the expected wonderful view of Florence was muted. We strolled a bit hardly seeing another person and took the next bus back for lunch at Mercato Centrale. Maybe it’s better on a sunny day.

Piazza Mino is located in the center of the nice little town of Fiesole, Italy. The town is on a hill that overlooks the city of Florence below. The town has about 14,000 citizens and is about 5 miles northeast of Florence. Getting there is easy and a taxi only costs about 17 Euros and you can also take bus 7 from the Piazza San Marco near the center of Florence. You take this bus to Fiesole's Piazza Mino (the last stop). You can buy a bus ticket for 2 Euros from the driver and make sure you validate it using the machine behind the driver. We met another couple in Fiesole and they said that this bus route is frequently audited and if you do not have a validated ticket you have to pay a 50 Euro fine. We missed our bus so we took a taxi and were there in about 10 minutes. We took the bus back to Florence as there were no taxi’s at the taxi stand (plus the bus arrived right after we arrived in the Piazza).
I went with my wife and one of my daughters on a Saturday evening in mid-March and enjoyed walking around the Piazza Mino. The Piazza is the nerve center for the beautiful village of Fiesole. There are lots of shops near the Piazza and visiting this area is nice change from the hustle and bustle of Florence. The Piazza is a great starting point for touring Fiesole (especially since the bus from Florence drops you off here). Since we visited on a chilly March evening there were not a lot of tourists walking around. I bet it gets really crowded during the summer.
If you are visiting Florence and are looking for a quick day trip I recommend that you take bus number 7 and check out Fiesole and its nice little Piazza. The Piazza itself is not worth the trip so you will need to eat lunch or dinner here and then see some of the other local attractions. Make sure you pick a restaurant with a great view of Florence.

This is actually a review of Fiesole in general. Since Tripadvisor has no category for a town, I'm filing this under the closest thing, the main town square. We went there on the recommendation of the proprietors of our B&B. We knew before we left that the views were the big attraction. It had rained overnight and early that morning, but the skies seemed to be clearing, so we went. We did see some nice views of the countryside on the bus ride up. But within a half hour of our arrival, as we were getting our bearings in town, such a dense fog had rolled in that we couldn't see anything. Minus the view, there's not much there. The town isn't very charming, and it's almost devoid of the interesting little shops that are to be found in most cities and hill towns. There is an Etruscan museum, but since we were going to the best in Italy (in Volterra) the next day, we didn't stop in. Incidentally, there are spectacular views of Florence from the other side of town, at Piazzale Michelangelo.

I believe the bus ride here is a popular thing with tourists, but you would not think so as it is really quiet here.
Buy your bus tickets from a tabaccheria for 1.2euro each which last for 90 minutes, so best to buy two for the return; remember to stamp the ticket in the machine behind the driver otherwise they WILL fine you.
Catch the bus ...No.7,at Piazza San Marco, just up from the Accademia Gallery. It takes about half an hour to get to Fiesole and operates a half hour service for the return ride.
The views of Florence as you climb are spectacular, and there are many points to takes some stunning shots of the whole area and rolling countryside.
It was very hot when we went there, so you have to take some time for a cold drink and reflection on such a beautiful place just a few miles from the bustle of Florence.
A lovely little town with a wealth of historical buildings and history.
A good plan is to visit the Accademia in the morning at 11.30am, catch the 12.46pm No.7 bus to Fiesole and have lunch there, it will be a magical day.
A completely unexpected gem advised to us by a friend who had been there.
