Interesting History!
May 2018 • Couples
After lunch, we went to see the Casa Guidi, the home of writers Robert and Elizabeth Barrett Browning. It is a 15th-century, patrician house in Piazza San Felice, near the Pitti Palace. The Browning’s lived in the apartment between 1847 and Mrs. Browning's death in 1861. Their only child, Robert Barrett Browning (known as Pen) was born there in 1849. It was interesting to see it furnished almost exactly like it was when the Brownings lived there. We were not able to see all of the rooms, but we were delighted to see the rooms that we did. They ask for a donation. The principal rooms of the apartment are open to the public from 3pm until 6pm on Monday, Wednesday and Friday afternoons between April and the end of November. There is an elevator, so you do not have to do the stairs.

The Windows of Casa Guidi
Apr 2018
Elisabeth Barret Browning wrote that book looking out the windows of this lovely apt on Via Maggiore around the corner from the Pitti Palace. It has very limited hours but try to squeeze it into your itinerary if at all possible. The furnishings evoke another era and give one a feel for the fourteen years the famous couple spent in Florence, where their only child was born. The lady running the tour is very helpful and nice, too.

What a gem

Open for three afternoons each week, this is a real find: ring the doorbell to be admitted! A surprisingly spacious apartment for these two incredibly important writers. A detailed information sheet was presented to us and the lady was keen to share her knowledge.

Although this is free, donations are welcome.

Overlooked, Free Florence Attraction
Jul 2015 • Friends
This is the home of Robert and Elizabeth Barrett Browning. This was a cultural requirement for my study abroad program and it is free. It's right across the street from Palazzo Pitti. It only takes about 5 minutes to go through. It's interesting especially if you are familiar with the two authors.
