We spent almost 2 hours working with Lorenzo, who was such a patient and wonderful teacher! We learned all about their papers, got to make our own marbled sheets, and made a small journal. It was a really enjoyable experience, and such a nice break from sightseeing. The shop itself is fantastic for anyone who still appreciates quality stationery. They have a large assortment of greeting cards, personal stationery, and journals.Visited December 2024Traveled with familyWritten January 4, 2025

Loved this store, we happened to walk by and went inside to see the amazing artwork in papers, cards, maps, papermaking at it's best in Florence. The gentleman at the store told us we can go to the back room area to view the machines on how they make these beautiful artwork. Highly recommend this store to visit if you appreciate fine artwork such as papermaking and bookbinding work.

I came across this shop by chance while walking around the city, and though I had no idea what it was, I decided to go in. They were demonstrating how to make beautiful marbled paper. The design was so pretty that I bought a notebook with a marbled cover as a souvenir.

This was such a cool experience! One day, a friend and I were in the store watching the demonstrations in the back. At one point, they told us we could take a workshop and do it ourselves! So we signed up.
The next week, we came back and were led through the process of making the design, dying the paper, and binding a book. The shop keepers were so so friendly and kind the entire time, bringing us coffee at one point, answering all of our questions, and letting us take a MILLION pictures. We could take our book home that day and it was 100% done by us. We also got an adorable certificate for attending. It only cost 70 euros and felt very affordable for the amount of time we spent there.

This was excellent. We were with a private guide, so we got to go int he back of the store and have a private tutorial on how the paper was dyed and it was quite an experience. Something I had never seen before!
I highly recommend seeing if you can go into the back where the paper is colored!!

This was a great shop (Via Camillo Cavour) and the Marbling class was great! The marbling class was amazing! We learned the process of Marbling and the history of it. We got to make our own designs and Marbled paper. My family (2 adults and two children; 8 and 12) did the class all together. The children loved the class and were so proud of their work. My wife and I had a blast as well. The shop the amazing. The items were fantastic! We purchased several items that were reasonably priced. Overall, a strong recommendation to visit the shop and take the Marbling Class.

We stumbled across this shop walking back to our hotel and loved what we found inside. It’s had gorgeous cards and notebooks and the staff member was extremely friendly and helpful. Products are on expensive side but I think you’re paying for the quality and uniqueness. Would recommend visiting this store

Wish I could give this gem of a store 100 stars! The owner is a 5th generation paper maker and is the friendliest man in all of Florence. We chatted with him for nearly an hour and he invited me back the next day to give me a lesson on how to make the marbled paper. Alas, we were leaving, but next time I get to Florence, I'm carving our an entire day - or week- just for Francesco! The shop was lovely and the paper products are top notch. I think there are a few of these stores, but the one by the Duomo is the real deal.

They have beautiful hand decorated paper as well as wonderful leather books. They will talk to you about the paper, as well as show you how the paper is decorated. The staff is very friendly and the prices are very reasonable (considering the quality of the work). Highly recommend a visit.

Beware of trying to visit according to the location on TripAdvisor. There is an Il Papiro there, but it’s not the store that the photos & reviews that generally accompany this on TripAdvisor are of. We visited the store on the bank of the Arno, it was nice but you could barely swing a cat, let alone do marbling demonstrations there.
The next day we chanced across another Il Papiro on Via de Guiccigardini on the way to the Pitti Palace. This store is big, with a demonstration area, a “museum” and lots of products to choose from. The shopkeeper was very knowledgeable and helpful.
I’ve deducted a star for TripAdvisor wasting our time visiting the wrong store.

Was the demonstration of the marbled paper technique in Florence free, or was there a charge? If there was a charge, how much was it? Thank you.
