About
The Murate complex, a place rich of history, today the beating heart of the contemporary city, was originally founded as a complex to host the nuns who lived on the Rubaconte Bridge, the current Ponte alle Grazie. The architectural complex was known as the Monastery of the Santissima Annunziata delle Murate. Suppressed by the French government in 1808 it first became a military barracks for the Austro-Hungarian troops in 1815, then in 1832 with the closure of the nearby Stinche prison, a male prison institute. The architectural complex went through further modifications, remaining a men's penitentiary institute until 1883. In the 1990s, the City of Florence began a project of urban redevelopment under the guidance of architect Renzo Piano, making the complex a center of social housing and a driving force for contemporary arts in the city dedicated to young people.

Before heading to Florence I look up recommendations through yelp and TripAdvisor. I came across Le Murate as I like to see places that are different not the usual restaurant. And through its history I thought my boyfriend and I would give this place a try.
First of all, the staff was very friendly and they knew we did not speak Italian so they helped us out with the menu. I wish I would have remembered names but I didn't unfortunately. Our server who also took our order inside was friendly and did a great job. We paid a lady inside and she was also very helpful and gave us some recommendations. I just wish we had more time to leisure around the area. It is a big quad area and funky too with the mismatched furniture but it does have an appeal to it. We were not there for any of the entertainment but I'm sure it is an attractive place at night.
We did receive bread with vinegar and olive oil and that was nice to accompany our wine. Our food was also very good. If I'm ever in Florence again, I would go back!

On a whim we looked for something a bit different. This was it and BRILLIANT into the bargain.
I'll never forget out night with cool tunes, huge buzz, free nibbles and a little (too much) Prosecco.
Not for the staid but we Loved it.
