    A hidden gem
Stunning views of the city and well worth the walk up the hill. There is a lovely bar there too where you can get soft, alcoholic and hot drinks. A perfect place to relax in the sun, take in views from the walls of the fort with a drink and while away a couple of hours. Much quieter than piazza Michaelangelo but equally as historic. Can’t recommend enough.

Silence of the Lambs quote...check that box!
Echo an earlier comment...the only reason this spot hit my radar in Florence was the Hannibal Lecter quote. Great views. Stayed for lunch and a "nice Chianti! Awesome and laid back couple of hours enjoying the music and the views overlooking Florence.

A beautiful spot with great views of the city and it’s surroundings. Access is free except for the art exhibitions. The staff is not very professional but kind. Such a shame that the quality of the aperitivo is so incredibly bad. We paid 8€ each for our ‘mocktails’ which were basically fruit juice with some soda, and 20€ for a tagliere with a few pieces of cheese, some olives from a supermarket jar and a few tomatoes, and polenta croquettes that were served cold and were inedible. When we asked for them to be heated the reply was that they are to be served cold.
So, go see this beautiful place and enjoy the stunning views but avoid the bar!!

The panorama is nice and the exhibitions were interesting too, although probably not worth the cost. However, the most annoying thing was the staff. I lifted about ten centimeters my six years old son close to the rail and one of them shouted at me that it was forbidden. Fair enough, safety first. We moved to another area, followed closely by another staff member. We stayed very far from the parapets, the we sat and my wife opened a packet of crackers because my son was hungry. He couldn't eat a bite that the staff member who followed us shouted that it was forbidden to eat in the castle. It was just a packet of crackers! And the ground was full of cigarette butts.
We left very annoyed.

Even though the official website says Fort Belvedere is open, it is NOT! One travels all the way uphill to this place only to find a notice pinned to the gate saying it is closed until further notice. It's about time they updated their website!

Seems obvious. But I make a serious point - unless the fort is open, there's no point making the climb. There's nothing to see, literally. It was meant to be open when we visited (at least according to Google) but wasn't. And as the car park is walled, there's no view. So just a cautionary note - make doubly sure it's open before you arrive, otherwise you'll have nothing to see!

A very nervous and apparently out of his mind man has assaulted me and my girlfriend after we’ve tried to make a photo on the parapet. He claimed that he is the owner of the place and could do whatever he’d like because we didn’t pay for entry (ticket is free). So he ordered other members of staff to escort us to the exit. So after a 20 minute climb to the castle all we got was an impolite conversation with one crazy Italian. Worst example of Italian hospitality I’ve seen throughout my visit. Definitely won’t recommend.

South of the river, but between our hotel (Park Palace) and the city centre, this fort is a bit off the beaten path, but it is definitely a hidden gem! It was not crowded at all. Set on a hill across the river, it has an amazing view of the city. It's a fort, but they use it largely as an exhibition space. We mainly went to see the fort and the city view, but you buy a ticket for the exhibition. When we went it was a modern Chinese artist, which was interesting and worked very well in the space. There was a very chic cafe/bar that didn't serve much food, but apparently does a nice Sunday brunch. We were there for Sunday lunchtime and ended up eating pancakes with real maple syrup and scrambled eggs with fresh squeezed orange juice! The server was super friendly. We just wanted to lounge there for hours with the lovely view and nice breeze in the big comfy outdoor sofas! It borders the gardens, but that's a separate ticket. Next time!

The place is beautiful and there is a great view of most of the city. There is a nice bar with comfortable sofas where you can relax while enjoying the place. My family and I were lucky enough to see an art exhibition together with a spetacular sunset.

This is rambling old fort with no outstanding features except for the stunning views. When we were there they had a very interesting sculpture exhibition. If you have the time for a stroll up and back meandering through Florence then yes it is a pleasant overall experience. If time is of the essence then do other more exciting attractions in stunning Florence

We didn't go see the exhibit in the Fort but worth the money to see the view of Florence around the Fort - Then walk down to the Boboli Gardens and bring some wine and cheese

This is a relatively uncrowded place compared to many other major sights in Firenze. It offers some of the best views of the city, which makes sense given its historical function as a defensive fortification designed to allow for watching for approaching enemies. It is lovely to stroll around the upper fortifications and there are often additional shows of contemporary art. This time it was large bronze sculptures of animals. It is a little bit of a walk, either up the steep walk from San Niccolo below or from the major road above. This probably accounts for how few tourists we saw at a time when the centre of Firenze was mobbed. (Usually my visits in late August have been quiet even in the city centre as most Italians are on holiday at the seaside. But this time it was surprisingly crowded.) Spend a couple of hours enjoying the views and perhaps also the nearby Boboli and Bardini gardens. Then saunter down the hill for a lovely lunch in San Niccolo.
