This is a small and fairly unremarkable public square in front of Basilica di San Marco in the city centre of Florence. There is a bronze monument to General Mandfredo Fanti that is worth a quick look-see before or after your visit to the Basilica and Museum to see the Fra Angelico masterpieces. Then time to make way to other intended sightseeing elsewhere. You will pass by numerous public squares that will hold your interest with more ease and far longer than what you will see here.

Piazza San Marco is not very attractive even without major repairs, which are going on now. The facade of the Basilica San Marco is pretty ordinary and doesn’t add beauty to the piazza.

However, there are some nice local restaurants and the loveliest bakery, Pugi, on the opposite side of the Basilica,

This is a rather charmless little square in Florence.
The square is currently being renovated, which makes it even less appealing.

Piazza San Marco is relatively smaller when compared with other similar areas in Florence, however, still worth visiting.

My wife and I sat at, met at, and walked through this piazza often. We stayed in Venice for four days. We found the traffic in the piazza overwhelming, depending upon the time of day.

Since our bus started and arrived from that piazza, we visited it quite often. Besides the bus terminus, there is the Museo di San Marco, a fantastic museum and church, and also the Monument of General Manfredo Fanti, a great soldier, who fought for the independence and unification. On the perimeter are several restaurants and small shops.

Anyone who has visited Piazza San Marco in Venice will know what I mean. Actually I don't recall seeing pigeons at this one at all, and we were at the square at least four times because we used number 14 bus which starts/ends here. There is a church and we ate twice at one of the restaurants. The Galleria dell'Accademia is just around the corner. Otherwise its small and nothing special.

This piazza does not have a lot of historical buildings but it’s a nice small piazza that is not overly busy and you can sit for awhile and catch your breath before you head off exploring again.

We sat on a bench and watched the world go by as we enjoyed a beverage from a nearby market. It’s a very busy place, since it is a main transfer point for city buses. There isn't much to see really, though it's a nice, relaxing, and entertaining place to spend a few restful moments.

This is one of the smaller piazzas in Florence but it is very beautiful . It is anchored by the Basilica di San Marco and it's activity level is vibrant. It is not the biggest or the best but it is beautiful none the less.
