The area
Neighborhood: Piazzale Michelangelo
Just outside the ancient walls of Florence, Viale Michelangiolo starts. It is a winding road rimmed by wonderful poplars and holm oaks. The long ascent opens up to the most beautiful and famous panoramic viewpoint of Florence: Piazzale Michelangelo, where an elevated terrace offers visitors an incomparable and breathtaking view of the entire city from above. During good weather, Piazzale Michelangelo provides visitors with a serene space surrounded by the amazing landscape, better if accompanied by a fresh gelato from a local kiosk. During night, visitors will be dazzled by the warm lights of the capital of the Renaissance. Spend a second with the silent Romanesque beauty of the Basilica of San Miniato al Monte: the one that wishes good morning and good night to Florence!

Folon was a great Belgian artist with his own museum in Terhulpen (Belgium). But his work is on this nice place in Florence. Proud! The statue of the suitcase with the view on the city is iconic. For us Belgians ... a nice metaphor of this trip :-).

Should visit when the roses are blossoming, at least in October. Sculptures, roses and view of old Florence. Convenient to visit to/from Michelangelo square

On our way up the the square of Michelangelo we visited these rose gardens. They are free to enter and quite cozy and well maintained. There were a lot if locals enjoying the sun. Probably also because the gardens have free entrance. From here you alresdy have a nice view on the oldtown of Florence.

Nice garden, nothing to write home about, my roses at home are just as nice! The way some people were acting I don't think they had ever seen a rose before!
Good place away from the crowds to sit and chill. Rest rooms here.

Whilst walking back to the city after visiting the Place Michelangello, take the time to strall through the Rose Garden with some statues of "Folon". Very nice and unwinding experience.

We visited in May when the roses were at the height of their glory. It was beautiful. Amazing views. Close to Piazza Michaelango. Be prepared for some steep paths, but so worth it at this time of year.

The rose garden climbs up the hill and provides a great walking path to the Michelangelo piazza. Lots of roses, some ponds with water Lilly’s and great views of the city. Some sculptures and nice photo points for selfies

Lovely garden with great views over the city. Nice benches and lots of space to relax. Just spoiled a bit by the idiots picking flowers for their Instagram feeds. Seriously, people - stop. If everyone takes a rose for their picture there's nothing left for the rest of us.
