This review is for the 5 day Grape Trotters Piemonte tour in September of 2021. If you read nothing else, know that if you enjoy wine, the Grape Trotters tours are second to none. I have visited Italy several times, and in 2019 I had the opportunity to take a couple of the Tuscany in a Bottle day trips (Brunello and Elite Cru) which were magnificent. However, I discovered that they also offered multi-day trips in several regions of Italy and France. My original trip was for the Rhone region of France, which was supposed to depart in June of 2021. Covid got in the way of that trip, but the Piemonte tour was still a go in September of 2021. The stress levels were high as the trip approached given the pandemic, but I received an email a couple weeks beforehand confirming the trip would proceed! Our group was small, only 8 people, which included Rebecca, our guide. Every day was amazing. I had thought that once we went to Barolo, the trip would go downhill, but I was 100% wrong. I learned about Roero and Barbera, Arneis and Timarasso, and several other varietals. One might think this tour was for wine experts, but not at all. Its for anyone who enjoys wine. Aside from the pleasure of trying so many different wines, I learned a staggering amount about the region. We visited several wineries that have limited exports to the US, and they provide contact info if you would like to stay in touch. Two of the wineries produce fewer than 20,000 bottles per year, and they make some spectacular wines. I believe only one of the wineries had any substantial exports to the US. Rebecca handled all the shipping to save us some money (its a bit pricier to ship from the winery, though you can if you want to) and I shipped a lot of wine. Beyond wine, every restaurant we ate at was well researched and spectacular. Some places had a course menu with a wine pairing and others were a la Carte. We even got to have lunch at one of the wineries where the food was prepared by the mother of the winery owner. On top of that there was still plenty of time on your own to do some exploring. The hotel was the top rated hotel in Alba, and the staff was wonderful. I have never had a better trip to Italy, or anywhere else. If you enjoy wine, you MUST try one of these tours.

We love Tuscany in a Bottle! We have taken two wine daytrips with them in the past and thoroughly enjoyed the experience. Since we weren't able to return this spring due to the Covid 19 pandemic, we elected to purchase one of their Mystery Boxes. It took a while to receive, but it was totally understandable under the circumstances. I picked it up today and we plan on enjoying a bottle of Chianti with our pasta this evening. It made us feel like we were there and unpacking was even fun! Well packed and it appears to be a great selection of Italian wines, plus olive oil and Balsamic vinegar. Can't wait to sample every bottle!!

We will definitely book another tour on our next trip.

We booked this the day before we travelled on a spur of the moment idea.... and with the weather forecast to be fantastic what better way that to spend a sunday afternoon in the tuscan country side drinking wine all day////
From the very start where you are met and greeted with a nice cold sparkling rose to the trips around the various vineyards this is just a fantastic day out
I could go on and on but all the prior reviews here that speak volumes about this trip are the reason i went in the first place
The 3 sites you visit are wonderful and the wines are beautiful.
Just go........... you really wont be dissappointed

This tour was absolutely amazing. Beyond the wineries we visited and the delicious wines and food we tasted, our guide Paulo was amazing. He was extremely knowledgeable about wine and the area, and patiently and graciously answered all of our questions! I would highly recommend this to anyone!

Out of my two weeks in Italy where we visited Venice, Rome and Florence this activity was the best thing that we did. We traveled to two different wineries. We were able to meet the actual owners, learn their stories, learn the history of the land, family and cultivation of it all! It was great to hear from the locals and of their experiences. My favorite part was getting the understanding of the smell, look and taste and to be able to support local hard working families ! We were able to taste so many different types of wines and really understand different taste of different regions! I cannot wait to buy bottles and have it shipped to my house and also buy bottles for my family as a thank you for our wedding. Great experience! I highly recommend this for friends and for couples! Last note it was also more than just wine there was also balsamic vinaigrette and real olive oil!

This is my first negative post on the Internet ever

I booked a tour through the company web site for the half day tour and received a confirmation for the tour for the 4 people in our group, listing everyone in the group by name. Unfortunately when I showed up with our group of 4 the instructor indicated that the tour was fully. She called the owner who told her that they could not accommodate us because the web site only showed 1 booking not a booking for 4.

I traded emails with the owner thinking that they would offer to make things right but that was not the case - although they did agree to not charge us for the tour we did not get.

I believe my mistake was using the Tuscan Wine School web site instead of a relying on a 3rd party professionally managed site like Viator. On top of the frustration with the booking, the web page took us to the wrong address.

I cannot comment on the quality of the tour because we never got to experience it but the booking system was a frustrating experience

Dear John, Public revenge isn’t a way to justify the fact that you had purchased only one ticket (stating names of friends doesn’t mean you can bring them along). Just a few hrs before the tour you bought on our online booking system 1 ticket which is for 1 person. Unfortunately, when you arrived the tour was full and we couldn’t accommodate your 3 travel companions. You didn’t take that well at all (probably embarrassing to have made such a mistake) and felt that it couldn’t possibly have been your own fault. We tried to reason with you and even refunded your 1 ticket immediately so that you wouldn’t have any economic loss for your own mistake. Getting back at us is this way is completely unfair and unjust. Perhaps next time you book something, you should read the procedure for booking and also realize that you’re responsible for your own booking. If you book for 1 you get one seat, if you book for 4 you get 4 seats. That’s all.

This was a nice way to spend half of a day. You start out at the Tuscan Wine School with a short introduction to the wines of the region, their history, and how to properly taste the wine. Then hop on a bus for about 20-30 mins to visit two very beautiful wineries. After each winery tour, you sit down and enjoy a sampling of the wines that are produced there. At the second winery a very nice pasta lunch was served.

You get to drink as much wine as you want. The value is great. The only negative is that I still have no clue about the manufacturing process of wine. I wish they would have demonstrated the entire process from someone picking the grapes to the bottling. Instead they just showed us a bunch of old barrels and said that wine is stored there. I have no clue how it is moved from one place to the next, how it is tested, how it is bottled, etc... Essentially there was no info on the "grape to wine" process. The tour was more focused on the tasting, which is fine, but I still left with a lot of questions on exactly how its made.

Thanks for sending in your review. We value all opinions. The tour you did is called Wine Time and it's a quintessential half day wine tour that intends to give a whole lot of info about Tuscany and what makes Chianti Classico special. It is true, we spend more time tasting wine than talking about how the stuff is made - so not much ABC about wine making even though we make sure that you see the vineyards and the cellars. Full day wine tours are also offered that go further into detail about the process - next time look up (and book well in advance) the Super Chianti tour offered by Grape Tours. Might I add that you could still have asked your questions instead of walking away with questions unanswered - there are plenty of guides around during the day (ours and the ones at the wineries) who would love to have questions from the guests... there’s something to the saying that you only get as much out of an experience as you put into it!

Like many others, I read the reviews of this tour when researching and I could not agree more with the excellent rating! The staff is very friendly and knowledgeable and the wineries selected were great. My husband and I learned a lot about the Chianti region and enjoyed some of the best wine, food, and olive oil I've ever had in my life! I highly recommend this tour!!

“LIFE IS GRAPE In Tuscany” is a favorite phrase of the wine educators at the Tuscan Wine School. As a “wine guy” from Tucson, AZ….I was excited to attend their “Tuscan Classics” - a 2 hr. tasting of some of the important wines in Tuscany and it was fantastic….I learned so much, tasted some amazing wines from high end winemakers and strongly recommend this experience to anyone who wants to learn more about Tuscan wines….Our teacher, Rebecca Wine (yes that is her name) gave an animated presentation about 6 major grapes varieties and helped nurture our love of Tuscany wines. Rebecca exudes the sophistication of a Brunello…the warmth of a Chianti Classico Riserva... the vitality of a Super Tuscan and the sweetness of a Vin Santo. It was like having a personal Sommelier bring you special wines from amazing vineyards which you could not otherwise find. DO NOT MISS this or any other of the wine classes or wine tours arranged by the Tucson Wine School.

What a great day trip into the Chianti Classico region! The classroom portion with Maurizio was terrific; he's knowledgeable and funny. The tour itself, led by Rebecca, was full of interesting facts about not only the wine country, but of Firenze, in general. The winery was lovely; the tour well done; and the lunch was delicious...great time; great new friends!
