This is an AWESOME plaza. They have restaurants, Gelaterias around this area. My FAVORITE pizza place, Il Grillo is within this plaza. I buy Funghi Mozzarella with no tomato from here every day whenever I visit FIRENZE. And across is my FAVORITE Gelateria place named...More

Most people will past through Piazza di Santa Maria Novella either coming to or from the station or the Basilica di Santa Maria Novella. It is a large square and sunny. At night we have been here when the birds come home to roost. What...More

Came across this Piazza while walking from hotel to restaurant. Great large open spaces to sit and soak up the beauty of if all or watch as the people pass by. I thought the Basilica of Santa Maria Novella reminded me of the Duomo but...More

Don't know how you can miss this if you visit Florence, right near the rail station downtown. Another short walk to the Doumo.

I think this could be nicer in warm weather as you could sit and enjoy the lovely views of the beautiful basilica. We just walked through it as it was cold.

This large square was bustling but mostly with people walking to and fro, but not by large number of selfie-taking tourists. The train station is right behind the church; they were probably commuters. More business-like atmosphere here. The Church of Santa Maria Novella facade is...More

This is one of the biggest and most beautiful piazzas in Florence. On one side of the piazza there is the church of Santa Maria Novella. On the other 3 sides there are beautiful buildings and two restaurants, and in the center 2 obelisks and...More

I walked through on my own without a guide and enjoyed it very much. The architecture, paintings and overall design are gorgeous. Recommend staying at the Santa Maria Novella Hotel just across the piazza. .

The beautiful square in front of the Santa Maria Novella church was established in the 13th century during its renovation. The square immediately became the open-air theatre for tournaments, contests and other festivities. It is still used for that purpose and it is the main...More
