    Impressive fountain
An impressive fountain of the Roman god Neptune in the Piazza della Signoria. This seems to be Florence’s version of Rome’s Trevi Fountain. Tourists are always throwing coins in it. It was recently restored to its former glory and looks very stunning, especially at night.

    Legacy of the Medici family
As the Roman god of freshwater and the sea, it is little wonder that there is a fountain named after Neptune in several other major Italian cities, Florence included. The tribute is understandable in Florence, as Neptune's dominion over the seas symbolizes the power of Cosimo de' Medici, who is responsible for establishing the Medici family as effective rulers of Florence during much of the Italian Renaissance, thereby alluding to Florence's rule of the seas. Located at the centre of Piazza della Signoria, it is hard to miss this glorious fountain dating back to the 16th century, although it does get over-shadowed, literally and figuratively, by the imposing Palazzo Vecchio and neighbouring replica of the statue of David. This quintessential fountain is not merely the typical must-have at a busy European piazza, but in the case of Florence, it also represents the historic legacy of the Medici family for the city in celebration of its Renaissance Movement.

Ammannati's Neptune fountain at Piazza della Signoria
One of the interesting things to see at Piazza della Signoria is the ornate Neptune Fountain. This is the work of Bartolomeo Ammannati (1560-74) and was recently restored in 2019. What you see is a classical image of Neptune, peering to his left. He stands on carriage pedestal with horses bursting from the fountain basin. Water spouts into the basin from various positions. The basin is then surrounded by mythical beings. It is a beautiful fountain and addition to the monument scene on the square.

Unfortunately this magnificent fountain had become a magnet for vandals in tbd past, but thanks to the Ferragamo family’s generous donation, the long overdue two year restoration of the fountain was completed in 2019.

The fountain was commissioned by Cosimo I de' Medici, Duke of Florence from 1537-1569, who was a patron of arts in his native city. It is situated in front of Palazzo Vecchio on Piazs Signoria.

Piazza della Segnoria is a small area you come across when walking through the beautiful streets of Florence. You can't miss the Fountain of Neptune he is absolutely stunning and towers across the piazza. There are several other statues in the square to be admired to as will as a super caffe if you want to stop for a quick drink called Rivoire.

The excursion we went on from Celebrity edge cruise left us by coach miles away. I did not see anything as disabled and too far away for me. My friends walked to the fountain but so many crowds was off putting. As we only had 1.5 hours they did not see the Spanish steps as there was no time

Located at Piazza della Signoria, the Fountain of Neptune is a large, beautiful, and impressive sight to see in Florence. Although it was a very crowded area, we loved seeing this true work of art.

The statue of Neptune in the center of this fountain is huge. When you stand close to it, you feel the magnitude and could not help but admire the artist who created it.

Is situated at Signora square, in front of the Palazzo Vecchio. Made of marble and bronze. The main element is the statue of Neptune in a chariot drawn by sea horses, symbolizing Florence's command of the Mediterranean. The 4.2m tall Neptune figure , made of Apuan marble stands on a pedestal in the center of the octagonal fountain. Around the perimeter of the basin can be seen the sculptures of bronze river gods, laughing satyrs and marble sea horses emerging from the water.
