Arno River is a central feature of Florence; the river determines the fate of Tuscany. The Arno River is great for traveling through the province. The Arno River is surrounded by mountains; it provides a view for the Florentines living nearby. Uncontrollable Arno River floods are disastrous for Florence. Treasured Italian art and buildings can be destroyed. The Arno River is difficult to avoid in Florence, it's worth viewing.

This is a major river that passes through Tuscany emptying its waters into the Ligurian Sea while passing through regional cities like Florence. You can get a good look at the Arno while crossing one of the city bridges like the famous Ponte Vecchio. If you want to capture the Arno and Ponte Vecchio in the same photo, these can be taken from the roadsides that flank both sides of the river or from sister bridges like Ponte Santa Trinta (northwest) or Ponte alle Grazie (southeast)

Obviously if you explore this lovely city enough then you'll eventually come across the river that runs partially through it. We were on a long stroll through the city aiming to catch some of the lovely architecture. We crossed the river at the busy Ponte Vecchio and then walked down the side of the river, past the German church on our way to climb up to the Piazzale Michelangelo. The river itself isn't much to look at and the walkways are quite high above the banks of the river. We didn't attempt to get down to the waters edge. It didn't look that attractive - nor that clean on the day we were there...

The River Arno passes through the city of Florence and is flanked on both banks of the river by impressive architecture and bridges. The water was very calm during my visit with some wonderful reflections on the water. A vey tranquil way to see the city away from the hustle and bustle of the streets and piazzas.
