Rivers flood their banks. This has been going on since the beginning of time. But when 1966 came and the river unleashed its vengeance on Florence, then more extreme measures were needed and were undertaken. An upriver dam was built and the river's future flow...More

Arno is, beside Tiber, the most important river at the Apennines and Florence wouldn’t be the same without it. Although the river flooded the city many times (last flood was twenty years ago) in its history, the city was always living and breathing around its...More

We walked along here several time and each time was just as relaxing as the last one. It made for a nice and quiet stroll away from the mass of tourists. If you are looking for some peace and quiet a walk along the river...More

Take an Arno river cruise, for an hour or so and let the tour guide tell you all about the river, and its once industrious past. Lots to learn, and it won't be crowded like several other Florence attractions! If you are especially lucky, they...More

We made our way walking up the Arno River and there weren’t as many people as there were in the piazzas which is a good thing as it was quite crowded there. You could see Ponte Vecchio from there and it is beautiful. You shouldn’t...More

We took a late afternoon river cruise down the Arno River June 2018. The late cruise was supposed to include a glass of prosecco and “appetizers.” The cruise was pleasant and our guide was knowledgeable of the surroundings. The extra money we paid for this...More

We love walking along the Arno River... Why? First, because you can get away from insane crowds... Second, because you can enjoy the best views of Ponte Vecchio, facades of gorgeous palaces on both sides of the river, and cross the bridges to the neighborhoods...More

The Arno is mostly associated with Florence but it also flows through Pisa. You can walk along the banks beside some grand houses. There is a path on both sides of the river but you are walking along side a busy road.

Taking a stroll along the Arno River is relaxing and allows you time for reflection. Whether during the day or night there are always people hustling along.

You must walk along the Arno to really get the flavor of this beautiful city. And, standing back, looking towards the Ponte Vecchio is one of the iconic photo shots to have in your travelogue. And it’s even more beautiful taken at night.

The park area to the west of the city would provide you with walks along the river. Other pavements running through the city are very narrow and difficult to walk along especially with roads right next to you.
