1) If you just want to taste some wine go somewhere else. If you want an unforgettable online Tuscan wine tasting experience that you will remember forever sign up with Paul Costa now. Paul is a master of storytelling and historical context of all things Italy. His deep understanding of Italian wine, the Tuscan region and everything in between is evident from the first moment you meet him. This guy’s passion will totally ignite your curiosity and captivate the imagination. Our 90 minute online multi-flight tasting was incredibly fun, educational, and everyone in attendance was blown away. Paul, you are absolutely the best!! Thank you for doing what you do! John and Anne A., Santa Rosa, CA. USA.

2) Paul’s online guidance through proper tasting of Italian wines is only the tip of the wine iceberg. The richness and depth of his presentations rely on his unique ability to weave throughout the tastings his vast knowledge of  local growing regions with stories of the founding families of Italian winemaking. Sprinkled throughout was information on the historical significance of each along with incredibly interesting threads of art history. Paul accomplishes this all with good doses of humor, down to earth language and interactive conversation. He’s an extraordinary teacher, an absolute gem! Scott and Jane B. Sonoma County, CA. USA

Wow, just wow! An immensely gifted storyteller and teacher, Paul held our group rapt at the Uffizi Gallery on a busy Friday morning. He brought the gallery’s treasures to life, weaving together strands from economics, politics, the craft of art, and other subjects. He also deployed some fine native New Yorker jujitsu to make sure we could enjoy the work and navigate the crowds. Our group only had him for a morning but I’m sure he’d be an amazing guide for longer adventures!

Paul Costa is an extraordinary tour guide. Ebullient and extremely knowledgeable about art history you will find spending half a day (or longer) with him to be interesting, enriching and fun (and exhausting!! there's lots of ground to cover in Florence!)

My wife and I booked Paul's tour starting at the Accademia (where you will spend time with your new best friend "David"), through the streets of Florence taking time to stop and learn about art and the way of life in Renaissance times, visiting the Duomo, Ponte Vecchio and finally the fabulous Uffizzi Gallery. Along the way, you will learn about life and life-style, culture, politics, religion and some of Florence's most famous denizens: Michelangelo, The Medici Family, Da Vinci and even the Pucci family!

Paul Costa makes all of this a wonderful and personal experience. He taught for many years and is adept in making sure you really understand the art and culture you are observing.

I promise you ... you will never look at Renaissance or Middle-Ages art the same way again!

Book this Tour without hesitation.

By the way .. if you are in Rome, you are a mere 90 minutes from Florence. We took an early (7:20 AM) train which had us in Florence in plenty of time to grab a coffee and cornetto then stroll over to the Accademia to meet Paul and start the tour.

We had Paul Costa as a tour guide in 2011 on a cruise excursion to Florence. He was informative, enthusiastic and entertaining so we kept in touch and decided to book private tours for our return trip to Italy this past May, 2014.

We were not disappointed. The 3 private tours (for us and two friends) were by far better than the coach load of tourists on the cruise ship. We were so happy with the service and the guides paul set up for us. We highly recommend booking private tours with Paul Costa...read on about each of our 3 tours.

In Livorno, we were greeted by a prompt and courteous driver waiting for us as we exited the ships gangway. He took us in a Mercedes to Florence were we were greeted by Paul himself. There we toured the Galleria dell' Academia to get a 360 view and detailed history of The David and then on to Piazza della Signoria where we learned about the Medici family. From there on to see the Ponte Vecchio. We had a wonderful lunch and then our driver took us to Pisa for a photo op with the famous leaning tower. We were back to the ship by 5PM and on to our next port!

In Rome, Same as Florence, our driver was prompt and courteous. The driver seemed to drop us at the front of each venue and magically appear when we were finished just as we exited...amazing! In Rome we went to the Vatican first where our guide gave us a complete history of the wonderful works we were about to see. No talking in the Sistine chapel, so this pre-tour was extremely helpful. We walked through St. Peter's Basilica where she described many of the famous artworks and more importantly the stories behind them. She was very knowledgeable and same as Paul an amazing historian. From there we drove to see the Forum and went high atop a windy road for a breathtaking photo. Then on to the Trevi fountain where we threw a coin over our left shoulder ensuring that we will return! Then on to the Colosseum where we went inside and our guide told us the history and events that went on here. Then back to the ship, another full and awe-inspiring day complete.

Our last tour arranged by Paul was to Naples and Pompeii. Our first tour guide, a native of Positano, was also our driver. As we drove, he gave us plenty of information about the scenery and sites. We stopped for photos along the way and he described the history of each place - the windy roads were not suitable for the large tour coaches and stops along the way. The scenery high along the cliffs was breathtaking as were the villages of Sorrento and Positano,. We had some free time to shop in these cliff villages. Then on to Pompeii where we were met by a historian to take us through the ruins. She brought us to places not open to the larger groups. The time flew by as we were totally engrossed in the history! Amazing!

What can we say, Paul did a great job on all the tours and we highly recommend contacting him for his services. We will definitely be doing so on our next trip!

We booked a private tour with Paul's tour company after our friends returned with rave reviews. Paul was already booked for another tour but he arranged for us to be escorted by Liza, our guide and Fabio our driver. We had an amazing tour of Florence and visited Michelangelo's David and then on to Pisa We were picked up by private van from the cruise ship in Livorno. We were thrilled to have a private tour with just our family after having to deal with the crowds on the ship. Our total price was less than the bus tour available through the ship excursions. Liza was incredible. She was full of interesting facts and stories that made our visit so interesting. I especially admired her patience as were were traveling with a teenager and my aging parents. She adjusted the pace and helped us find lunch and facilities. I will recommend this tour to my friends traveling to Florence.

We took a half day tour of Florence with Paul and it was one of the highlights of our trip to Italy. Paul is not only extremely knowledgeable, but he is very interesting. He taught us an incredible amount about the art and history of Florence. He didn't just recite a bunch of facts...he made all of the stories come to life. Because of the way he led the tour, I will remember a tremendous amount.

My family and I took Paul Costa's tour in Florence today and I cannot honestly say which was the best part of it, for the entire experience was just outstanding.

Although this is my first time in Florence, I am pretty sure we could not have had a better tour guide. From past experiences, both with good and not so good guides, this has far exceeded even our more optimistic expectations.

I would recommend Paul Costa to anyone willing to tour Florence, even if it is not their first time, for his perspective is undoubtely different from what you usually see around.

Paul's Academy of Fine Arts & Uffizi Gallery tour were, without a doubt, the best money we spent on our 17 day vacation. Paul's knowledge and the way he teaches you about the art is amazing. You will learn that Michelangelo is a GENIUS and when the tour is over you will think Paul is a genius too! :) He has such a way to draw you in. He gets you interested and you ENJOY learning about what you are looking at.
You will learn so much because he really engages you. He was such a great teacher and guide. We were so impressed with how he interacted with our 19 year old son. It was a fascinating way for him (and us!) to learn about the Renaissance period, an invaluable lesson, you would not get from anyone else.
Paul was awesome and he spoiled us - his tour was by far the best of our trip. AND we really, really liked him.

Wow! This is not a tour and Paul Costa is clearly not a "guide" in the traditional sense. This is a remarkable experience where your brain will be extended to its extremes in terms of both absorbing information and being challenged to offer responses to questions that you only thought you knew nothing about. Rather than trying to cover huge swaths of this amazing museum of a city, Paul, less a tour guide and more a force of nature, focuses in on just a few of the city's masterpieces...in our case it was Michaelangelo's David as well as "The Birth Of Venus". You'll then receive an education that simply cannot be found outside the classroom of a learned institute of higher knowledge. This is never boring, never longwinded, never too abstract as to to stunt the imagination. If I'd had professors like Paul in college, I strongly suspect that my life would have played out quite differently. If you're curious and if you're willing to be intellectually pushed a bit, this is clearly the experience for you.

My wife and I visited Italy last fall and hired a tour guide for each city we visited (Florence, Milan, Venice, Volterra and Rome). Paul Costa was, by far, the best guide during our trip! He is not only an expert on the art and culture of Florence; he is a masterful teacher. He communicates information in such an engaging way that you feel like you are experiencing Florence, not just learning facts about it. He has a definite and insightful perspective on historical events.

Paul customized our visit to include things we are passionate about – like great food and wine. He included a couple of wine breaks into our tour, without sacrificing any of the must-see attractions that were on our list – including the Duomo, the Uffizi Museum, the Galleria dell’Accademia, the Basilica of Santa Croce, and so much more. Francesco Vini was an amazing stop for a glass of wine and a snack. We enjoyed fabulous Tuscan fare complete with a tour (given by the proprietor) of the ruins of the Roman amphitheater upon which it is built. We felt very special! Paul also gave us excellent recommendations for the rest of our stay in Tuscany. For example, we never would have known about Fattoria San Donato had it not been one of his recommendations; and, it was one of the most authentic and delicious culinary highlights of our trip. Paul Costa is an accomplished scholar, an exceptional tour guide, and a gifted teacher. We will definitely tour with him on all of our future trips to Italy!
