We climbed this amazing medieval tower, and on the top we found a wonderful point of view on the city, definitely better than Piazzale Michelangelo! And included in the small price, just 4 euros, a very expert guide told us everything about the history of the tower. REALLY UNMISSABLE!!!

if you want to part with 3 euros for great views of florence, with a guided tour as well, this is a great attraction. you can climb to the michaelangelo park for free and have equally good views. however the tower has historical significance and is explained very well by the tour guide. tours start every 30 minutes.

It's open only between June and September, from 5 to 8 pm and is definitely worth the visit.
You get to know the history of the Florence walls built in the Middle Ages and have the chance to make beautiful photographs of Duomo and Palazzo Vecchio.
Only children older than 8 are admitted as the steps are quite difficult to climb.
No toilet or bar, but visit is only 30 minutes long.

There is tons of construction around the tower so you can’t climb up. No way to get any good photos as well given the fences. Skip until the work is over.

This structure really stood out if you are descending from Piazzale Michelangelo. It was first erected in 1324 and is formerly the defensive walls of Florence. There are 160 steps to the submit and it definitely offers you a different angle or perspective on how one views Florence.

This tower is now one of the MUST DO destinations in Florence! It's not expensive (€3) and it's on the way to the Terrace. The guide is interesting and the view is spectacular, especially at sunset. I am not a huge fan of stairs, but it wasn't too bad because you stop at each level. After you are done touring the main attractions, pop up here and check it out. Now it has a giant nose on it as an "art installation" that I found charming!

This 'defense' tower was built in the 13/14 century to protect the Oltrarno area of Florence. Here, at the top, you will be in awe of the incredible views of the city. I believe this was the first time the tower has been opened to tourists since the 300,000 euro reconstruction! It is the one tower that was not 'shortened' in the city...

I can't remember how many stairs we ascended until we got to the first floor, but the tour guide was patient and waited for everyone before explaining the history.
Once everyone caught their breath, we continued to the top (there are 3 levels). From one way you can see the Piazzale Michelangelo and then with your back against that, you can see the whole city, a 360o view! I was so lucky... the sun started to go down! :))) We stayed up top to soak in the views for about 20 min's, it really was spectacular. The tour guide did take me aside once the group was absorbed with the sights and taking pictures, then she explained, most briefly, the history of the tower to me in English. I wouldn't miss this site when in Florence if climbing stairs isn't an issue for you.

Tower was built in the 14th century as a part of the defensive walls of the city, which was demolished in the 19th century during the urban renewal of Florence. It was spared due to the panoramic views it offers all over the city and as a reminder on medieval history of Florence.

I stayed in an apartment near the Porto on the North side, and although a little removed from the main tourist area, I found this to be a happening place. Although just an intersection of three streets, it´s like a piazza, with several cafes, bars and restaurants, catering to locals and expats. The place rocks, especially on Friday and Saturday nights. The porto itself is also quite interesting, serving as the gateway to the steps that lead to Piazzela de Michelangelo.
