I have been to Italy but not Pisa or Florence I'm not a big fan of cruise line organized shore excursions so I did my homework as found share a shore excursion and am I glad I did .

I was first to sign up for this excursion and as a result the excursion was in my name. You decide what excursion you want from the website and what is the minimum amount of guests you would like to have join your group. The more guests. (maximum of 8) the less the cost per person.

My group was full, I requested 8, and I received a confirmation before I left for my cruise. We were met on the dock by Michael our guide who was holding up a large sign with my name on it. Remember if you join a tour be sure you know who originated the tour because his name will be on the sign.

The 8 hours we spent with Michele were wonderful. We saw Pisa and Florencec lose up with a very knowledgable and personable guide. His English was superb. I thought he was from the United States. Because we were in a small van, very clean by the way, we were able to drive right into the oldn part of each of the cities we were visiting. This is not possible if you choose to take a shore excursion organized by the cruise lines. They use big buses which are not allowed into the center of the cities. Arrangements were made ahead of time for us to go into the museum where the David statue was. There is an extra charge to visit this but itt is well worth it. And besides the tour company supplied us with VIP enterance passes so we did not have to spend hours waiting in line to get into the museum. We were taken to a wonderful local Italian restaurant and then to a locals giellato shop for dessert. Cost less taste better and no crowds for the Giellato. Michele delivered us back to the cruise port in plenty of time. I think we had twice the tour for 1/2 the cruise ship charges and a tour with 50 other guests. I would use thiis company again in a heartbeat whenever I return to Italy

Two weeks ago my wife and I had the pleasure of participating in a tour of Pisa and Florence led by a company called Share A Shore Excursion (SASE). The arrangements were initiated by another RCCL passenger on Cruise Critic. I took the leap of faith and committed to going on this tour with SASE because I have generally been unimpressed with cruise line arrangements in the past and the reviews on Trip Advisor looked pretty favorable.

This turned out to be an excellent decision. The service provided was DRAMATICALLY better than anything I have ever experienced on a cruise line tour. Our guide, Nicoletta, was knowledgeable, spoke very good English, and nudged things along at a good pace so we were able to see more than I ever dreamed possible in the allotted time. She struck a perfect balance between allowing us enough time to see what we wanted to see and keeping us on a schedule so that we would see as much as possible.

Our ship docked in Le Spezia which is definitely NOT the preferred port for trips to Florence. Livorno is much closer so this added an estimated 2 hours of transit time (round trip) to our journey. In spite of this handicap, Nicoletta managed to get us through all of the following: Pisa cathedral area (including the leaning tower), the Piazzale Michelangelo, the Duomo (main cathedral), the Accademia (where Michelangelo's David is located), the Baptistry (with Ghiberti's doors), the Piazza della Signoria (an incredible Neptune fountain, the bonfire of the vanities site, and more), the Straw Market, lunch, the Ponte Vecchio Bridge, the interesting Basilica di Santa Croce (burial place of Michelangelo and Galileo) and a great gelato place to wrap up the day.

We saw far more than we ever would have seen with the cruise line tour because: 1) the big tour buses are probably not allowed into the Florence city center which means everyone would have to walk fairly long distances to get to the sites, 2) herding 100 people around takes a lot of time, and 3) our tour guide was organized and really committed to us seeing as much as possible.

A great experience.

On Friday April 20th, eight of us (we didn't know each other until we boarded the ship) took an all-day tour of Pisa and Florence with Share a Shore Excursion in Italy. Our driver Giovanni was waiting for us as we left the ship. We first went to Pisa to see the Leaning Tower of Pisa and the Field of Miracles. It was wonderful. We spent about an hour there, then on to Florence. Giovanni was very friendly, knowledgeable and a GOOD driver. When we arrived in Florence, he drove us up to Michaelango Park which sits across the Arno River and high above Florence. From that point he described each site that we would visit. Being that we were in a van, he was able to drive us right into the center of Florence and park near all of the important sites. The big busses that the ship uses for tours are not allowed to drive in these narrow streets. From the very moment that we inquired with them about a tour, the people we dealt with were very friendly and helpful. They even made the advance reservations for us at the Academia so we could walk right in to see David and avoid the lines. We even had time to have a great pizza and a beer at a sidewalk cafe. Bring a camera to capture the great sites. They had us back to the ship in plenty of time. We will gladly use this company in the future. THEY WERE GREAT!

The concept of share a shore excursion is really unique and provides lots of freedom and benefits to travelers with a reasonable budget but want to get the highlight of the city in one day with a small group of travellers. We initiated our group and soon got our specified minimum number of ppl. filled up. After we disembarked from our cruise ship, the drive was already waiting for us at the pier with a sign that has the group's name on it. We didn't expect the van they use is Mercedez Benz minivan with air-conditioning during the entire trip. Our tour is definitely a pleasant experience. Our driver/tour guide is very knowledgeable and the service is second to none. He got all the fast line tickets to the academia museum ready and let us avoid the line-up. We also visited the leaning tower in Pisa in the morning, with good lighting for photographs and avoided the crowds in the afternoon (Many cruiseship tour will visit Pisa in the afternoon). In the lunch time, we asked our guide to recommend an Italian restaurant for us. The pasta they served is delicious. After a day tour, our guide took us to a Gelato shop to taste the genuine Gelato. I have to say it's the best one I ever had in my life. The Gelato store is inexpensive compared to those stores in tourist area. At the end of our trip, one member of our group received a phone call from the company and was asked to evaluate the driver. Of course he deserves the best rating!!! We really loved the entire experience. At first we were worried that whether the driver can get us back to our cruiseship on time. The answer is they definitely arrive at the pier earlier than those cruise excursions' big tour buses. Since our minivan is so much smaller than those big buses, it can get around Florence with ease in those narrow allies where big tour buses are not allowed, therefore it saved us a lot of time. Travellers from cruise tour always had to walk longer. Its price turn out to be almost 2/3 of what the cruise tour charges. I will highly recommend people try this company. Sorry I forget our guide's name, but our tour happened on Sept 11, 2012 and our group's name is "The Best of Florence & Pisa". Our guide definitely deserves a good bonus^^

We booked a tour to Pisa and Florence with Share A Shore Excursion, via email, several months before our planned cruise day in Liverno. Everything went great and email communications with the company were wonderful. We had our group (made up of our party of 3, another party of 3 and another couple, from our roll call) and were met my Mateo as soon as we disembarked our ship. Our stop in Pisa was fantastic and sufficient time to see what we wanted (none of us were planning on climbing the tower). Then it was off to Florence. We had arranged things with the company to the tune of one party of 3 wanted to go to the Accademia to see the David statue, the couple wanted to wander on their own, and our party of 3 wanted to go to the Uffizi Gallery. Everyone and everything was accommodated quite nicely, and we met up together later in the day for our trip back to Liverno. I'll eventually get around to reviewing the various sights we visited, but suffice to say that we were very happy with our day tour with Share A Shore Excursion, and with our friendly and funny driver, Mateo. We would book with them again in a heartbeat.....and in fact, we DID book with them again, as we were in Rome the next day on another tour with them, which I'll review separately.

We found our private Pisa and Florence Tour on the Cruise Critic Roll Call, A ship guest had set up the tour on Share a Shore and we were delighted to join this customized, wonderful day with two other couples at an unbelievably low shared cost, The driver was terrific and the van clean and well appointed, Our first stop was Pisa; we were early and so had the site practically to ourselves. Next up was a tour of the countryside on the way to Florence. Once in Florence, our driver gave us an overview and orientation and then we all split up with directions to meet at the appointed time for the trip back. The service we got from our driver was nothing short of amazing, Since we were the only ones who wanted to see The David, the driver then drove my husband and me directly to the Accademia, negotiated our way through a very short line and waited directly outside for us. He then drove us to a monastery with amazing views of Florence, took pictures for us, and we were lucky enough to be able to enjoy the Gregorian chants. He then drove us on a short tour, and dropped us off with instructions on crossing the Ponte Vecchio, seeing the Cathedral and Piazza della Signoria and meeting the group for gelato and the trip back to the boat. Share a Shore and our wonderful driver made the day really special,

Just did a cruise in June, used Share a Shore Excursion organised via Roll Call in Livorno (went to Pisa and Florence). Driver Gianmaria was able to park right alongside the tourist sites, spoke English well, very informative and was very helpful and friendly. Definitely recommended. With 8 people it only cost about $85 euro each, well worth it.

Our group for this tour comprised 16 people. We were picked up promptly at the designated time in 2 Mercedes 8-seater vans. I traveled with John, our tour guide. He was excellent, very informative and funny. The excursion covered more than we requested and the price was very reasonable. If we had selected the tour from the cruise ship, we would have paid triple the amount and not cover all the areas that we did with Share-a-Shore Excursion.

I highly recommend using this company for your excursion when visiting Italy and France. Very professional. Great customer service by Oana!!! Share-a-Shore Excursion you ROCK!!!

Francisco picked up our family of four at the Livorno port in his mercedes benz. We had booked the trip so long ago my husband couldn't recall what we had actually scheduled. After 2 consecutive days of touring Italy in previous ports, we knew we could trust our guides. Francisco was born and raised in Florence and we put the day in his hands. Off we went for a quick stop in Pisa to take the iconic photo of the tower....then back in the car to see Florence. Because we were in a small tourism car Francisco was able to take us on roads that other cars could not go on. What an incredible way to see Florence! He parked around the corner from the Duomo and we got in line to go inside. We asked to have a quick meal on the go since he was packing so much in. He took us to his favorite sandwich shop, Lo Specchio - and I am not kidding - this was the best sandwich we had eaten on our entire trip. The bread alone! WOW! Back into the mercedes and off to San Gianmigino. Wish we could have had a little more time in this cute village, very picturesque and lots of little shops and local artists, but we had requested a wine tasting, so we drove a little further in the Chianti area to the Fattoria Montecchio. We tasted some delicious wines. This place is also a hotel and has a large restaurant area. We have put it on our list of places to return and spend more time! Our very full day was coming to a close, so Francisco got us back to our ship safely. He was a wonderful guide to spend the day with. So wonderful that he knew and loved the area and clearly wanted to share it with us. Such a memorable day. I can tell you that our other family members who only took the cruise shuttle into Florence were very jealous when they heard about the day we had.

Fantastic sums it all up for Share a Shore Excursions. I booked three excursions with Share a Shore for Naples, Rome, and Florence on the 16th, 17th, and 18th of July. We had lined up the maximum number of people for each tour before signing up with Share a Shore Excursions. The entire process was easy, and if you had any questions the representatives of Share a Shore were quick to respond and accommodate. I want to personally thank Oana (representative) for being so professional, patient and fun to work with, and ensuring all was in order. We met Stafano right on time at the dock and quickly ventured on. He was extremely knowledgeable, friendly, and fun. He sized up our group and made wonderful recommendations that enhanced our tour. We got to Pisa early before the crowds and had a wonderful drive to Florence. Later in the day he made a wonderful lunch recommendation and even stopped at his favorite gelato shop. We never had to go look for any of the drivers we used during all three tours. We were back at the dock on time, tired, and filled with many wonderful memories. Later that night we spoke with other friends and guest who utilized NCL Epic tours and they all seemed to be in envy of what we just experienced, and at a cost that was much less than the ship tours. Thanks again to all the Staff at Share a Shore Excursions.
