Great day out, see the beautiful rolling hills of the Florence countryside. Great tour, including lunch in the vineyard and a visit around the winery.

Great wine and olive oil. The sommelier was good and clear and answered all the questions without a fuss!

We were taken to three wineries. All our hosts were very good particularly the last one. We tasted beautiful wines, saw the lovely Italian Countryside. Bought a couple of bottles of wine and the virgin olive oil and the balsamic vinegar.

The tour was fascinating. Our guide is a biochemist. I had no idea how much goes into just growing the grapes themselves. The scenery is breathtaking, and the lunch was to die for. LOTS of wine to drink with the meal, so pace yourself, or you will end up rolling out of there!

We booked a wine tour in advance of our trip and we had a 1 hour orientation on chianti in a classroom setting; providing tips on how to idenitfy if your wine may be corked without actually tasting it. 9.00am and you already have 2 glasses of wine to taste.

We then proceeded to be transported by 3 separate people carriers to some points of interest. We stopped off to a vantage point for some photo opps at the Piazzale Michelangelo, where you can take pics of the replica statue of David and some very pretty views above Florence.

We then proceeded along their motorway and stopped off in 2 different hillside village locations for nothing more than further photo opportunities. Honestly, the views of Florence countryside are absolutel stunning.

We finally arrived at the winery; what lucky people to be able to wake up each morning in this absolutely heavenly location. We were then provided a 20 minute education on chianti grapes and information on how the government regulates the chianti winetrade. It genuinely was very interesting.

We then were shown around a cellar or 2 and the bottling plant, unfortunately at the time we visited, there was no bottling taking place.

Finally we were taken to a beautiful hall where we were then provided our 'light Tuscan lunch', complete with 4 glasses of different chiantis and some grappa. Lunch was delicious; and sampling our wines you really got to chat more to other folks on the trip. Lunch took about an hour and we were then provided the opportunity to peruse their giftshop; however no hard sell, buy what you like and reasonably priced too.

Further 45 minute transit back to Florence where you were then dropped off.

Great education; great food and wine. Fabulous scenery but not much of a tour of the winery itself.

Our tour guide, a 5th generation winemaker was outstanding. I never had any idea what went into making wine. Our guide, a bio chemist educated in CA, had a true passion for his craft. The tour began in the vineyard and then we walked through the winery as Maurizio Colia explained the wine making process to us. We then had a 5 star lunch with 5 selections of wine in a beautiful café setting with white table linens and a white gloved staff. The food was amazing, service outstanding and the wine selections superb as well. This is a “must do” when in Florence. The countryside and vineyards are beautiful. Check out www.tuscanywineeducation.com if you want to contact the wineary directly.

Our afternoon was slated for a winery tour. So, at 2:30, we boarded a bus to the Chianti region. Our tour guide was fluent in 4 languages (English, Italian, French and Spanish) and proceeded to inform us of the day’s activities as well as give us some background on the region as we made our way out of the city and into Tuscany. We traveled from Florence toward Sienna to the Chianti region. We first stopped at a lovely little hillside town called Greve in Chianti, with shops lined with prosciutto, cheeses, breads, wine and beer. We then drove another ½ hour to the first of 2 wineries, Panzanello, a larger commercial winery. The views as we climbed up the hillside were absolutely gorgeous… just what you’d expect Tuscany to look like! It was exactly as I’d pictured it in my mind and remembered from movies; rolling hills with rows and rows of vines and large olive groves. We toured the vat and cask areas and learned a bit about wine-making.
We took pictures of the beautiful scenery and then headed to our next stop, a small family-owned winery, Riseccoli. The vines were still full of grapes, as the wet Summer had pushed the harvest back by a couple of weeks. We were able to sample the grapes… SO sweet! This vineyard was more quaint than the first, and felt homey. Again, we were given a tour and sampled the wines. We boarded the bus and headed back to Florence, arriving around 8:30pm.
This was the quintessential Tuscan tour for me! Walking among the grape vines and olive groves and sampling the wines! It was a terrific way to spend our afternoon/evening and worth the reasonable price!

This is a must do tour!!!! Veronica, our tour guide, took us on a journey of history and culture that, combined with the beautiful Tuscan landscape, makes for an amazing and relaxing outing. Once at the vineyards her knowledge on the process of producing the wine and the description of each wine was, simply put, just great. This tour was worth every penny!

Again, this was organised for us by the staff at Hotel Silla. Value for money, great driver, outstanding scenery, and the vineyard was amazing. Tables were set with small italian tasty nibbles to complement the 5 different wines they gave us to try. We were escorted through the cellars and up into the vineyard which was family owned - we saw 4 generations of the family.
