I'd give this truffle hunt and cooking class six stars and two thumbs up! Informative and fun, the truffle hunt with Francesca was a great walk in the woods with Coco showing his penchant for finding both white and black truffles. The cooking class truly felt like an inclusive family experience with Francesca's mom teaching us the finer points of making gnocchi and stuffed zucchini with truffle sauce, of course! The meal was yummy, the wine flowed, and a good time was had by all! Bravo! Gracias!

Our favorite experience during our entire Italy trip! Hilary was the most amazing sommelier and tour guide. Super knowledgeable, friendly, and fun! Choco the truffle hunting pup and his owner Francesca were also incredible hosts at their beautiful Tuscan villa. Would absolutely recommend to anyone. Thanks again Hilary!

My family and I did a truffle hunt and wine tasting with Vittorio and Francesca at the end of February. It was absolutely incredible! I arranged the tour with Vittorio a few months in advance of when we would be in Florence. Communication was prompt and helpful. He picked us up on the morning of the private tour, basically at the doorstep of our AirBnB - which was super helpful because we had our 18 month old son with us. He also provided a carseat for him! We arrived at Francesca's beautiful villa where she met us with her dog for the truffle hunt, Chocco. We hiked around and found several truffles - both white and black. We were able to take our son with us on the hike as well using an Ergo carrier - you definitely would not be able to do it with a stroller. After the hunt, we went back to Francesca's where lunch was made using our truffles we found! The food (we had 4 courses) was incredible - one of the best meals we had on our 10 day trip to Italy. The meal also came with two bottles of wine from Francesca's vineyard - it paired perfectly with the meal. While Francesca does sell the wine, among a few other goods, we did not feel pressured to buy anything.

After the relaxing meal, we then drove to a winery for a personal tour and tasting. Vittorio (who is a sommelier) hosted our wine tasting which made the experience even more personable. We did buy wine at the winery we toured and the price per bottle, including shipping back to the states, was very reasonable.

This really was the highlight of our trip to Italy! I'm so fortunate to have found Vittorio and his tour. He really made it easy as well as was so accommodating for our son. Definitely book this tour if you want to have a fantastic experience in Tuscany!

First off, this was one of three tours we did on our Italian vacation. Compared to the others, I'd rate this one, at 175Euro per person, as expensive. We opted for truffle hunting and wine tasting as we needed the transport from Florence. Ideally, I would have liked to have done the truffle hunt on its own, but I didn't want to bother with working out transport to San Miniato and then taxi arrangments onwards.

We were picked up by Linda on time and then had a 75 minute ride (traffic was bad) to Francesca's farm. It was a hot day, and I was surprised there was no welcome glass of cold prosecco or a bottle of water, which would have made the 20 minute wait to get started a lot more enjoyable, and added value to the 150Euro pricetag.

Francesca then came out and introduced herself and her dog and off we went for a 45 minute truffle hunt. This was by far the best part of the day and Francesca is obviously a genuine person who was passionate about what she does. The lunch itself was in a lovely setting and the quality was pretty good although not amazing, certainly nothing to complain about.

Next was the wine tasting, which was the disappointing part. After a tour of the winery, we sat down to taste a few wines, but they were all too young and not at their best. I must say I was surprised when we were shown how the "wine spectator" had given one of the wines 93 points and then got to taste "it". the only difference being that the one that had won the great review was the 2007 one and we weren't tasting that vintage!! When I pointed it out, Linda (who was nice - don't get me wrong) didn't really seem to think the difference mattered, saying that it was still a good wine. Strange..The oldest vintage we tasted that day was 2012, I think, so the whole wine tasting experience was a little disappointing. Having said that, I think if you have very little knowledge about wine and have never done tastings before, it would still be enjoyable.

I would also like to add that I don't think anyone driving, especially one who is working in an official capacity and who is carrying passengers should be drinking alcohol even if the quantity was not enough to put that person over the legal limit.

Overall, an okay day, but I think with a bit more planning and making Francesca and her dogs a bigger part of the day, it could be so much better.

Thanks to excellent guidance about how to leave Florence and make our way to San Miniato we had an utterly delightful walk (good shoes required), hunt (for golden potatoes), and fine dining experience! Our group of 6 joined a few other adventurers on a lovely fall afternoon. We've always enjoyed truffles but will never look at them the same now that we have watched Francesa working with her beautiful, skilled, and friendly dog Ciaccio to ferret out white winter truffles. After the hunt, we were ushered into a classic huntsman-like dining room where several courses of food and wine were prepared and shared. Everything we ate and drank was prepared right at the source and included the best pasta dish I ever ate. So simple and prepared without hesitation with our food allergies in mind. If you could bottle our laughter and shear enjoyment during our meal you would would have something as tasty as any three of the wines we drank. We never wanted to leave, but are glad we went. Can't recommend this experience enough. Amare!

If you are looking for an experience like no other, then you can rest assured that you found the right one! The morning began with a beautiful walk in the woods with Francesca and her amazing truffle finding pup, CHOCO!!! (Any dog who loves truffles is A okay in my book!) we found a bunch of spring whites and summer blacks. My wife and I could have walked all day with those two. Truly an authentic experience in itself. After collecting our treasures we ventured on to their house where we enjoyed learning how to cook a wonderful Italian meal with Francesca and her mother, Hillary. What an absolutely amazing experience, they were so great!! After we were done cooking they lead us into the most amazing dinning room, where the table was set for two and we got to enjoy an experience that you read about or see in a movie. It was truly unforgettable! I couldn't ask for more. The wine was delicious and it was so cool to learn of all the amazing things that this family does on their farm. I couldn't recommend this experience in any higher regard! You must book it if you are in the area.

This was such a fun thing to do in Italy! It's about 1/2 hour outside Florence so you need a car or they'll pick you up for an extra fee. We met at the Villa and they provided boots - thank goodness because it was so muddy. We were in a group of about 8, plus the guide, the truffle hunter and his dog. Take note that when you book the Private Luxury Tour, the hunt is not private - the lunch after is private at a different table from everyone else. So, I would just book the shared tour next time. We found several white truffles! And it was so amazing watching the dog find them and dig them up. Such a special thing to do out in the beautiful Tuscan countryside. The lunch after the hunt was wonderful and filled with truffles. Note to those with food allergies: make sure you tell the chef. There were nuts in several of the dishes so they can make them special for those with allergies. Enjoy the hunt!!

We just got back from our first trip to Italy and have to say the truffle hunt and chianti tasting tour is without doubt the most unforgettable and amazing thing we did within our 10 days. Our tour guide was Fabian who is a lovely enthusiast about wine, truffles and Tuscany! He picked us up from Florence and from the first second we started talking, we were so impressed by his knowledge as well as passion about wine, truffles and Tuscany. He is easy-going and knowledgable, we must have asked him 1000+ questions, he answered everything patiently!

The truffle hunting took place in a small hilly village in San Miniato. Our truffle hunter, Riccardo along with his dog Nebia talked us through the whole process of truffle hunting and we were fortunate enough to find 4, the excitement went Nebia starts burrowing for the truffle is certainly exciting!

When we returned to their shop, a delicious truffle themed lunch prepared by Monica was ready waiting for us. Fresh truffle doesn't get any better than this! After purchasing a variety of truffle products, it was time to say farewell and move onto the wine tasting.

Fabian made a quick stop over in the town centre of San Miniato to give us perspective on the town that has given us the luxury's that the day provides.

The wine tasting was a great experience too, Eva went through 6 delicious wines that are produced at the vineyard and together with our guide Fabian, a professional sommelier we were given masterclass in identifying the flavours of the different wines.

After having a look around the vineyard and meeting her husband who was hard at work in the vineyard it was time to head back to Florence with memories of an experience we will never forget.

You MUST do this tour if you travel in or around florence!

Great afternoon with Francesca and the truffle hunting dog Choco. The taxi driver Antonio was very accommodating (we had too much luggage (carrying ski gear) for our family of 4 and he promptly arranged a second car). The walk through the nearby forest was easy, Choco did his thing successfully, and Francesca speaks English. A great tuscan lunch followed and then we had the taxi back to San Miniato train station. It had been raining so it was a little muddy but no problem. One of the highlights of our trip!

We actually had a car and drove from Lucca but The Truffle Hunter's villa is probably equidistant from Florence. The Google Map GPS instructions are a little shaky as it sends you off on a single lane road off the main highway but keep going up the hill and you won't miss the Truffle Hunter villa complex on the left. It looks like there's a small B&B, a restaurant and the villa.

We were running late due to our misadventures with the GPS and we were the only car in the small parking lot. We thought we had missed the truffle hunting group as we pressed the buzzer at the gate next to the main house. Out popped Francesca, the Truffle Hunter, and she welcomed us in. However, first she had us drive around back and park on her villa driveway because she didn't want us to leave our car filled with our luggage out in the parking lot. A hint of the wonderful hospitality that was in store for us.

No worries for being a little late as the group was still enjoying a delicious breakfast spread & coffee that was provided to start the day. We also met Hillary, our high energy & personable translator, who seemed to work as the comic relief to Francesca's dry & more serious demeanor. When it was time to go truffle hunting, they had us switch into nice waterproof boots to wear and introduced us to Choco, the cutest truffle hunting dog ever!

Francesca & Choco then took us on a hike to the secret truffle spots on their property through olive tree groves and up & down trails... this is not an activity if you have any physical limitations, although I would not consider it strenuous, more fun & bringing the kid out of you while climbing up and trying not to slip on hillsides or whacking the person behind you with a branch as you make your way through the forest. Francesca & Hillary give you truffle hunting & nature tips along the way and on this trip, Choco found 2 good sized white truffles (each about the size in the picture).

After trekking back to the villa, you go to one of their dining rooms which looks like a hunting lodge with several animal head trophies on the walls. There you are treated to a wonderful 4 course meal that includes the truffles that were found that morning. You feel like you are at a family meal as it seems like Francesca's mom & aunts are in the kitchen next to the dining room preparing the meal as if they were cooking for their own family.

Finally, Francesca invites you to take your glasses of wine and sit out on the villa grounds, enjoy the afternoon and make yourselves at home. Don't miss visiting the small chapel at the far end of the grounds or saying hello to the other truffle hunting dogs in training.

I highly recommend this excursion as a one-of-a-kind change of pace from the typical tours of churches, monuments & museums.
