Tuscany offers so much, we flew in and then mainly used public transport, discovering the sights on foot once there.
Starting in Pisa using she shuttle train into the station 5 euro and frequent, then a 10 minute bus to hotel in the shadow of the leaning tower. You pre purchase bus tickets, lots of machines and outlets sell them. A one euro fifty cent ticket allows you 70 minutes travel throughout anywhere in Tuscany once you have boarded your first bus and validated the ticket by having in stamped on board by a machine near the driver. If your journey involves more than one bus keep an eye on your 70 minutes allowed, you can use as many buses as you like within that time.
Pisa is more than the tower area with its stunning history but you need to search it out. Don't forget the sea is nearby, a marina, and beaches further afield.
We took the train to Lucca, absolutely stunning, with hidden gems of squares and streets. It is only a small town but worth a day, hire a bike to cycle the surrounding wall for 8 euro per hour...you can cycle it 3 times in an hour. Lovely restaurants bars and feel.
From Lucca train to Florence, a very busy tourist City, but a must. For your sanity to keep away from the rush for a while stay on the ourskirts and bus in Worth 2 nights.
Finally, do not miss Siena, again by train, lots of tiny streets to discover around the world famous square and Cathedral.
The trains are cheap and efficient, bookable from the UK and you can print tickets or just use your phone.
If you are not impressed with the historic sights in Tuscany you need help lol.
You don't have to go into the Churches etc just enjoy the atmosphere.
One of the trips to put on your bucket list.
