I reached out to SIlvio three months before my family's trip to Florence based on his website - above90.com. Silvio is selective in the number of tours he agrees to take on in any given year. It is worth planning ahead to get time on his schedule. He sets up everything and his pricing for us included three tastings, lunch, transport and his services as a private guide. The wineries he goes to are appointment only, small producers and based on long term relationships with each host location. Because of traffic issues (the Obama's and a car race in the region) our proposed schedule was actually reversed - and it may have even made that better. We started at Sesta di Sopra with a tasting in the owner's home. The conversation was just like making new friends - the owners who have been married for 50+ years tell wonderful stories. This producer has multiple listings on the annual Top 100 wines list. Fattoi was our second stop, again - no other guests while we were there. Just us and one family member walking us through the wines on offer. While Silvio didn't plan it - one spectacular surprise was seeing Michelle Obama and her protection coming out of a small castle in one town we visited that afternoon. We finished our tastings at La Fornace. Fabio escorted us around the vineyards and poured some truly delicious offerings. I fell in love with the 2012 Origini.

The day was longer than Silvio or we anticipated, starting at 9 AM and returning to our hotel at 9 PM. We drove over vistas of the rolling hills and stopped for photos, walked in two small villages in addition to the winery visits.

Silvio has my highest recommendation as a guide. He was entertaining, informative, genuine and made it a special day for my parents and I.

Just getting to this review after a year and a half of procrastinating! My wife and I spent a little over a month in Italy and honestly, this was one of our most enjoyable days in country. Silvio was incredibly knowledgeable and was able to tailor his wine suggestions as we went along, based on the wines we liked at previous vineyards. He is very personable and knowledgeable. And of course, in my opinion, Brunello is the best wine there is in Italy (with the exception of maybe Barolo, which we like a lot too) so the trip was hard to beat regardless. If we visit Siena again (we plan to) we will definitely go with Silvio for another tour. Highly recommended.

We spent about 10 hours with Silvio on August 27, 2009. He provided us with a personal exploration through central Tuscany that was unforgettable and incredibly memorable. Silvio is a warm, endearing, and congenial host. We explored Montalcino and enjoyed a private tour and tasting at Il Paradiso di Frassina winery followed by a private gourmet lunch in a gorgeous villa perched on a hillside. It was the highlight of our 2-week trip to Italy and we not only highly recommend Above90 but can't wait to take another journey with Silvio next time we are in Italy.

My friend and I booked a tour with Above 90 about a month before our trip to Italy. It was going to be our most expensive tour of the trip (a "splurge" if you will!) and we were very much looking forward to it. Silvio was great with his email communications and was very accommodating to make a tour that would meet our expectations.

The morning before our tasting, Silvio emailed us to confirm and we quickly responded with our confirmation. When we returned to our hotel from a day of sightseeing and checked our email to find that our tour had been cancelled. Silvio cited car troubles.

While I totally understand that the unexpected can happen, I was very disappointed that we got such short notice for our cancellation. We asked if he could rent a car or suggest other options. He gave a few suggestions but it was too late to book them.
It was very disappointing to leave Tuscany with no wine tasting experience.

I've heard nothing but good things about his tours so I still encourage you to book but I also encourage you to plan a backup option!

We actually did this wine tour about two years ago and have now just gotten around to share our wonderful experience with you! We were able to do this tour with another couple, which helped us to save a little bit of money. This was also nice to meet other people and learn from others while enjoying some wonderful wine. Silvio was more than just a wine tour guide. He provided us with an experience we will never forget. He was able to bring us to several different wineries that were not like anything we have ever experienced. Being able to meet "Grandpa", hear about his stories and experience his wine was awesome. While in this winery, we could see how long this vineyard was in the family since we were able to see "Grandpa" in a picture, on a tractor at this same vineyard when he was 6 years old. That was unforgettable. We have been able to recommend this experience to others and they have also said nothing but great things about this experience. No doubt, when we return to Italy, we will be booking another tour. This is something everyone should experience while in Italy. Not only will you have amazing wine, wonderful conversation, but you will see some amazing views of the Italian country side.

While not wine novices, our knowledge of Italian reds was minimal. With very little advance notice, Silvio put together a wonderful day blending regional history, personal insights, and visits to 4 small to moderate sized vineyards.
The vineyard owners were so warm and accommodating this will likely be the highlight of our time in the region.
No pressure to buy (but we certainly did!)...
If you want to taste a range of highly rated Brunello and break bread with the owners, Silvio will set you up and take care of you!
Thank you Silvio!

The best wine tasting experience in Tuscany. Silvio is simply great. He has great knowledge of Tuscan wines and for us the Brunello experience is a life time memory. We did our tour in late September (great weather helped but wasn't required) He is very informative and selected 3 wonderful Brunello producers for PRIVATE tastings. As others have mentioned your group is alone with the producers who proudly share their finest with you. You get a great opportunity to taste with a perfect presentation and atmosphere that allows you to experience the wine - not sold on the wine. We were fortunate to have the expertise and calm wisdom of Silvio, who by selected producers who spent their time with you. not a tasting host. It is clear these wine makers love what they do, care about their product quality and are so humble. Out only regret is that we could not carry more wine home with us.... Marco, Lucia, Ettore, Enrica and Silvio thank you for taking the time to tell us about your wine and where you live...

We got fantastic value for the day we spent with Above 90 Tours. Great lunch, great tour of the wine country and we met some really nice accommodating and caring people who by the way make great wine. Loved all of it.

Do reach out to Silvio and share your initial preferences...He will customize an experience for you and You will NOT be disappointed.

My wife and I still talk about the day we spent with Silvio and the wonderful people we met at the wineries we visited. Silvio picked us up, took us to three fabulous wineries and also to a local restaurant for a wonderful lunch.

Silvio is knowledgeable, genuine and very personable. The Mantalcino region is beautiful and produces some of the worlds finest wines. You will experience them in a private setting (no buses) with the owners. You will also have the option to purchase (no pressure but I recommend it).

This is must for any wine lover. Beautiful countryside , fabulous wine and a great host.

I can't wait to go back!
