Well away from the crowded centre, and rather run down, we stumbled upon it on a Sunday when there was a really interesting - and very substantial - antiques market. Some really unusual things on display. The market ran over most of the piazza. Not sure it would be worth a visit if it weren't for the market, though.

Piazza dell’Indipendenza is a piazza like many other piazza of Florence. However, this one is like a park with trees and sitting benches, unlike the others.

The park is insignificant as a whole (but it’s not by any means bad). However - we are travelling with two children and the playground at the northern end, shadowed by many trees, was very appreciated!

This is a truly unattractive square.
We walked past it at dusk and were not impressed at all from the general neglect of the square.

With so many buses and cars in this area near the main station any real chance of appreciating this square is somewhat lost. Unfortunately as it is a green heart needed very much in overcrowded Florence

Piazza dell'Indipendenza is a fairly large square, with lots of greenery, trees and plants and some space to sit down and relax. There are some cafes in the surrounding area, so you will not get too thirsty or hungry! The square has lots of space and it includes two nice statues of some famous Italian politicians. It has some long history about uprising for Independence. However it lacks life, and it does not seem the kind of place that you would seek out to visit. We walked past the square from our hotel to a number of other sites, and also to and from the Railway Station. Other than that we would not really go back there especially to see it.
