Florentia, as it was called by Latins, is permeated by an eternal beauty spread in all corners of the city. The historic center is characterized by the immensity of the Duomo, able to transport tourists into the brightest age of Florence: the Renaissance. Who does not know the Brunelleschi Dome, San Giovanni Baptistery and the Giotto’s Campanile? Everything is enclosed here and it would be easy to imagine the city as it was in ancient times, with maids walking in the main square and horses carrying coaches. Nowadays, roads are busy with street artists. Rustic Tuscan bakeries give way to fashion shops; just stop for a few minutes in the middle of Piazza della Repubblica to enjoy the colors and sweet melody of the carousel that will bring back great memories from anyone’s childhood.

Piazza San Giovanni is practically the space that surrounds the baptistery of the same name and almost forms a whole with the nearby Piazza del Duomo. Surrounded by historic buildings, it is one of the most famous squares in the historic center and offers beautiful views of the façade of the Duomo, Giotto's bell tower and the baptistery itself. A very suggestive place, always very crowded with tourists.

My city, my life. Florence is the beauty. If you visit Italy you can miss Tuscany and Florence. San Giovanni's Square is just stunning, a jump into the Florentine history. I would recommend you to go on the top of the dome to have the best view of the Florentine red roofs and with the same ticket you can visit the museum and the bell tower. Love Love Love.

The Piazza San Giovanni is a favorite of mine in Florence. Find a cafe or restaurant that has outside seating so you can enjoy the beautiful view of the Piazza as well as enjoy all of the people moving through and around it. Don't miss spending some time here!!!!

Piazza San Giovanni is the area where you will find yourself facing the famous Florence Duomo with its Giotto's Bell Tower and the Baptistery, as well as all the other great buildings around. The Piazza is always full with people, mostly excited about just being there! It's a great place to be. You don't have to spend a day here. You can spend two or three or more and still come back for more! We did!

This has most of the attractions from the historical center, but it’s very crowded and you can’t enjoy the view in quiet. In the evening is not crowded and you can enjoy the view and taking pictures.

One of the most crowded squares of Florence as it is where the Duomo is
Far too many people and difficult to enjoy the architecture of the Duomo and tower.

Stunning area with all the buildings. It was surprisingly crowded in January. Lots of lines of people waiting to enter the various buildings. Very walkable area.

This is a public square that is basically an extension of Piazza dell Duomo, occupying the space to the immediate west of the Basilica. It is where you find the Baptistery and Saint Zanobi monument. You can take lovely photos of Duomo, Baptistery and Companile from Piazza San Giovanni, capturing all three monumental buildings in the same frame.

This is a small square next to the Battistero di San Giovanni, in front of the famous Duomo.
The square is filled with eateries and a splendid view of the Duomo.
