SR222- scenic drive
Nov 2019 • Couples
Sr222 from here Down South is very scenic. I used Waze and realized it may not be so accurate. 15 to 20 min drive took me 30- 50 min. So we ended up using the gps on the car. This is my advice.

Nice Drive
Mar 2018 • Family
We took this road (SR 222) as a side trip while driving frm Bologna to Siena. We picked up SR 222 off of the Autostrada in Florence and took it all the way into Siena. It would be a fun road to drive in a sports car if you could be sure that nobody was coming the other way as it is full of twists and turns. There are a few places to pull out and look at the scenery and several places for tasting and sightseeing.

Nice scenery
Jul 2016 • Couples
The road is definitely worth driving. Lots of wineries where you can stop and try the wine and lots of scenery. Few places to stop and enjoy the scenery however so when there is a pocket to stop in – do so since you might not get so many more chances.

Overrated
May 2016 • Couples
I did this road in springtime and would have given it 1 star but I can imagine that in autumn it merits 5 stars.

In May it is just a monotomous green of rolling hills much like you could see anywhere in Italy. The driving is spoilt by numerous bicycles often 3 or 4 abreast or motorbikes "cruising" (very fast) in groups of 10 or more.

Pure Tuscani
Mar 2016 • Family
We are amazed of this area. Just come back of a road trip. All this area is fantastic. Few people, forest road, oaks, pines, beech trees and, of course vinyards. There is a natural reserve, with an enormous virgin forest, unusual in Tuscani. We saw Pietrafita, Morrocco, la Piazza. Not enough, the next time, we hope to stay in this area. There are a few stunning villas, good restaurants, small villages dedicated to the vinyards. Fully recomended.

Wine Route Chiantigiana ....
Jun 2015 • Couples
We drove the Chiantigiana from Florence to Castellina, where we stayed, and then to Siena. Used the wine route for a week or more and explored the storied towns, villages and many wineries along the route enjoyed all of the experiences. Varied scenery along the route from open rolling hills, to sunflowers, to wheat fields, to forests and vineyards - you'll likely see it all and it will become a wonderful memory experience. Highly recommended. ...

Happy to have done it

We drove all over Chianti and stayed in Radda. Awesome views , rolling hills and if you have researched your route , you come across quaint little towns, forts and what not.
The roads are narrow and windy and you will have to drive carefully, but surely a route to do even if you are not a wine lover.

only for a wine connoisseur, for others boring trip
Jul 2015 • Family
Unfortunately I cannot recommend this road if you are not a real wine connoisseur.
Before my trip I had read about this place like this: "The Via Chiantigiana is one of the most enjoyable motoring routes in Italy, one of the most instantly recognisable landscapes in the world, etc". That is not true! I drove directly south from Florence to Sienna through the middle of the Chianti Classico wine zone of Tuscany (Strada Regionale 222) and ... it was very boring trip. If you compare this road to routes: at Fuerteventura, at Gran Canaria, in Morocco or roads surrounding Italian Dolomites - Chianti Road is much worse. Almost no stunning views, just a wine fields and thats it Of course you can taste many sort of wines for free if you buy a bottle :) I do not recommend it.

Beautiful.....
May 2015 • Couples
Chianti.....drive leisurely along it's narrow winding roads, verdant green on either side. If not forests it's the rolling hills covered with vineyards or olive trees dotted with small habitations and the ubiquitous wineries. It's lovely countryside. Stop by small villages with their relaxing cafe's or a village market to taste some local cheese and wine.

Incredible
May 2015 • Couples
We opted for the country roads and drove slowly with the windows down, breathing in the wonderful smell of spring in Tuscany.
I think if I could put Tuscany in a bottle it would smell like pinewood, lemongrass and gardenia.
