Delightful square , which attracts people of all ages. Beautiful views towards Etna and the coast. There is often live music, close to restaurants on the edge of the square. Well worth stopping a while.

Everything has been said about this spot, easy to find and of course fabulous views over the balustrade, you will probably get asked to take someone's photo as I did but I was glad to oblige and in these strange times of paranoia it was good to speak to another human being. It was quiet with just a handful of people every time we visited but not surprising this year, otherwise i am sure it's heaving. Both day and night there is a peaceful atmosphere. You can sit around the side of the Duomo in the shade because it gets super hot. There's also a cool gelateria opposite selling the best ice cream in the world, what's not to like?

Whether you are looking out to the sea, over to the Greak Theatre, up the mountains or down the Corso Umberto Main street, this place is picturesque. We stayed in an Air BNB Panaramica sul Mare that was only 2 or 3 buildings away from here, right on the main strip, about 2000 sq. ft with balconies in every direction and really enjoyed the New Years Eve fireworks in the Piazza from our balcony! If you stay in Taormina, stay as close to this square on Corso Umberto as possible or you will miss out on the experience of this amazing place.

Piazza IX Aprile is a great spot to visit mid day with panoramic views, baroque churches, and shops, but it really comes alive after dark. We headed down after dinner on Saturday night. We grabbed a cocktail at the Wunderbar and listened to traditional Sicilian music and watched a joyful, colorful parade of locals and tourist. Festa!

This is an absolutely lovely piazza in Taormina but it is extremely crowded. It is THE gathering place and as such attracts everyone. It is surrounded by lovely churches and buildings, a fountain and of course the stunning sea. The views are amazing but we had to fight the crowds to try to get any decent photos. Still would recommend despite it all.

This main square is located in the middle of the Corso Umberto I. The name of the square refers to a historical event in 1860. We walked around and visited the old churches: San Giorgio and San Giuseppe. We took photos of the clock tower (Torre dell’ Orologio). My favourite place was the panoramic terrace of piazza. The sea and the smoking Mount Etna is fantastic. You can enjoy chilled white vine and nibbles at the tables of Caffe Wunderbar.

Following Corso Umberto, you walk through a medieval clock tower into this lovely Piazza! There are 2 churches, Chiesa di Sant' Giuseppe and Chiesa di Sant' Agostino, which has the beautiful checkerboard tiles in front of it. You can see Mt Etna in the distance - the top of the volcano is covered with some white puffy clouds in my picture. October is a great time to travel in this area - temperatures in the 70's! On our week stay in the area, we visited this Square everyday. It so charming and the views are simply breathtaking. We didn't bore of it easily and visited in the daytime and evening. It has a different atmosphere as the day goes on.

If you walk down Corso Umberto you cannot miss Piazza Aprile IX. Great for photos. Lovely church where there was some weddings in this piazza.
