We were walking from the Greek Theatre when we saw this small, simple church nearby. It’s a bit shabby outside but it’s worth a visit. Inside it’s nice and peaceful and has an impressive carved wooden ceiling. It’s free and it takes only a few minutes to look around.

An unassuming temple. Well worth a visit as sightseeing. Never too busy. Especially beautiful to visit during christmas or Eastertime

Taormina is filled with wonderful Roman Catholic churches. Each one has its own charm, including this one Santa Catarina. And they are all free to visit. Many have gorgeous statues, oil paintings, and mosaics. I suggest you visit any with an open door.

Adjacent to the square where you turn to go to the amphitheater is this unassuming church, which is open to the public and charming. It was a bit dark on the inside, but there was a feeling of serenity here.

This is a charming church located just off the main square. It looks quite plain from the outside but it is very beautiful inside. A lovey and quiet place to take stock and say a prayer.

this is a typical sicilian catholic church with everything you woudl expect to find there from the stations of teh cross to the statues and ubiquitous candles, but dont forget to look behind it as that is where you will find the Roman Odeon! a popular tourist attraction and school visit venue it also provides and excellent landmark to meet up at if you want to do your own thing and link up with friends later.

We walked by this Church several times during the day and the doors were always closed. Int he evening, we found the doors open showing a gorgeous, candle-lit interior. Well worth a peek inside.

Yep, it's actually considered a Basilica by whoever decides those things. It's been very well preserved and is incredibly built. There are signs around the church in a variety of languages explaining things about it, which we liked. The marble pillars are massive and 4 of the 6 are monolith, meaning they were cut out of one solid piece of marble. Incredible.

If you're in Taormina you need to see this duomo.

Just remember that most churches in Italy you are required to have knees and shoulders covered. It wasn't like at the Vatican where there are people checking your clothes but it's good to keep in mind. =)
