This nice place is very popular meeting point, although this is not the main square of Taormina. It’s the heart of the town with the Duomo and the Town Hall (Palazzo Communale). A baroque fountain stands in the middle of the square. You can have a coffee in one of the cozy cafes. After visiting the Duomo we sat down just watching people and relaxing.

We had a blessing to celebrate our 25th wedding anniversary at the church in this Piazza. The priest was great despite the fact that my husband forgot his wedding ring! The small blessing was so moving and just perfect.

Even though this lady is fairly young, dating from the Baroque time ie. early 17th to mid-18th century. She is in good company. One of the first female centaurs is from the 4th century BC and depicted in a Macedonian mosaic.

Why inevitable, and anyway not in a negative way at all since it is a nice enough place.
Inevitable because the the main attraction in the Old City of Taormina is probably Corso Umberto since it leads you to all the interesting places in Old Taormina: from Porta Catania to Porta Messina, or the other way around, you'll pass by many Piazza's like Piazza IX Aprile (which is more interesting than this one), Churches, endless eateries, souvenir shops...and this Piazza with its beautiful fountain and the Duomo.
So you'll be there, no doubt.
Still, and compared to the other famous Italian Piazza's in Italy (San Marco, Sienna, Roma, and many many others more beautiful), this one is not really extraordinary nor amazing.
It is indeed nice but not  that special to make you visit Taormina specially for it.
So just stroll Corso Umberto, escpecially if you're coming from the main Parking building at Porta Catania, stop at this Piazza, get in the Duomo, stop to admire its fountain and take some pictures...
And then continue your visit, which I believe will take you to next and more beautiful Pizza: Piazza IX Aprile with its superb view on the Mediterranean Sea

A charming little square, complete with an artistic fountain and church opposite. This is a lovely stop for photos and for a rest.

This is a great place to just relax. The old town of Taormina is simply fabulous and this piazza just adds to the overall charm.

The two main attractions of Piazza Duomo are the cathedral and the fountain. It is often packed with tourists during the day so the best time for photographs is in the early morning when the sun is right.

The place is so peaceful. With nice restaurants around, a fountain which offers fresh water and a beautiful duomo, it is all you need.
