Having walked up the the amphitheatres (unreliable buses) we were able to make a detour back via the Santuario. Glad we did as the structure is a bit like a stretched version of Christ the King in Liverpool - the original plaque is set above...More

In Syracuse and Ortigia usually people appreciate the historical and ancient archeological site. It’s a modern church with a particular style. But even if you aren’t very interesting in Modern architecture visiting the Catacomb you can go also there because it’s just 2 minute walk.

This architecturally modern Church is visible from the entire city and surrounding area, thanks to it's high sweeping dome. It reminds me on likewise modern Cathedrals I saw in Rio, Fatima and Berlin. It's set in a big beautiful park, close to the Archaeological complex....More

The architecture of this modern church is really creative and unusual, seeming to attempt to reach heaven, and dominating the Syracuse skyline. It is a lovely building to look at insude (free entry). The statues in the gardens which surround the church are also well worth a look.
