Found out about this sandwich shop from “Lonely planet” Guide book, so glad we did. Order a vegetarian sandwich to take away, and what a taste sensation it was, I didn’t think you could fit so many delicious ingredients into one bread roll. Will deffinately revisit, and would highly recommend.

We went there after reading the reviews. But if you visit Siracusa street market, the long line for ordering the sandwich (panini tipico) will tell you are in the right place. The “tipico” are not always the same. It will vary slightly according to what they have in house. In any case, it will come fully loaded with real fresh cheese and all sort of Italian hams. There is a line outside where the cook prepares the paninni and performs a surprise for customers. There is also a line to order the paninni inside the shop. We preferred that option and were able to see Gaetano performing a master technique to build the sandwichs. We filmed him preparing four sandwiches in 11 minutes! The sandwiches are huge and we saved some to eat the following day and they were still terrific. You can also order the ham and cheese plate which are terrific. The shop is run by a family. It is cultural, contagious and fun. Don’t miss Caseificio Borderi.

You might think this is just a simple sandwich, and what’s all the fuss about? Firstly, it’s made with love. Every ingredient is fresh, including the homemade cheese. The man making the sandwich, as passionate as he is charismatic, singing to the crowds. This is one of the best sandwiches I have ever eaten. He starts with fresh bread, the zest of lemon, radicchio, arugula, parsley, several types of cheeses Including fresh mozzarella, ham, salami, red pepper, olive oil and some sort of magical potato topping. If you are in Ortigia, please go.

You have to wait in a very long queue to get a sandwich. The service is very slow for a streer food place. We had to wait for about an hour in a queue of 10 people. On top of that, the owner's friends are just jumping the line. The food is good but definitely not worth the waiting.

Wow, wow, wow! I stopped here for lunch and was blown away. My sandwich was made fresh in front of me while I was given samples of delicious cheese. In my sandwich alone, there were at least four kinds of cheese, three kinds of lettuce, two kinds of tomatoes (or maybe three), roasted peppers, and so many more things that I couldn't track. Everything is fresh and delicious, and the atmosphere is lively and fun. Locals and visitors alike swarm here, and it's obvious why.

We stopped by during market hours with our group and were offered a delicious fresh made sandwich sample with fresh mozzarella, tomato and olive oil. It was so good! So we stopped by again later and the friendly clerk told us we should come back in the morning to see them make fresh mozzarella. So, we did. 5:30 am. The market was not yet even open and only just starting to set up. They were so gracious to us and invited us to the door of their kitchen to watch every step of the cheese making process. And they even made coffee and shared it. Then they gave us a fresh, warm sample of the cheese right out of the salt bath, which was so so good! We took two fresh “loaves” to share with the group later, and the cheese maker wanted it to be a gift to us for getting up so early. So gracious, friendly and proud of his quality craftsmanship. And rightfully so. Thank you so a fascinating and delicious experience! Please patronize these folks. You will not be disappointed.

This place left me speechless first because of the queue and second because of the most bigger panini I ever had.
They do a special kind of panini with everything inside, I had a vegetarian one and they put different kind of cheese, dried tomatoes, tomatoes, sauces, ricotta, caponata (mix of vegetables) salad, mozzarella and other things, believe me with half of that you are full of the entire day.
They are so good and cheap (2 panini 10€) that queuing worth.

I arrived at about 12 with my girlfriend and waited in line for just under and hour to get a sandwich. We didn't mind this and the preparation was almost theatrical. Ot was such an experience!

While one person prepared sandwiches, another was dishing out generous portions of home made cheese to all those waiting in line. The sandwiches were like nothing I've ever seen before, a humongous bed of salad and cheese was topped with a roll of meat stuffed with more cheese, roasted peppers or mushrooms, chilli and ricotta mousse. The resulting sandwich was out of this world and we enjoyed it at one of their tables with a home made craft beer.

Would 100% recommend as long as you're willing to stay the course in the queue.
