We spent the morning on a walking food and history tour around Ortigia with Giuseppe, and thoroughly enjoyed it. Left with lots of knowledge and very full stomachs. Couldn’t recommend the tour highly enough, and definitely don’t eat breakfast before you go! Thank you Giuseppe!

My wife and I always try to take a cooking class wherever we travel because we try to have an international kitchen. We prefer smaller, more authentic local classes to big group cooking classes that just teach the main dishes of the country. This experience was perfectly suited to us as it was just my wife and I spending the day with a Syracusan family in their home, learning about the local specialties, ingredients, recipes, and culture.

The day started with Giuseppe meeting us in Ortigia where we were staying and taking us on a shopping tour of the Ortigia market. Giuseppe is very kind, easy-going, and a great conversationalist. He explained to us what were the local and seasonal ingredients and picked out some delicious produce, prawns, and anchovies. He then drove us back to his family's villa just outside the city which overlooks the Sicilian countryside. Their home is lovely, with a modern, impressive kitchen and a lovely back yard with a koi pond and vegetable garden. Even lovelier was the family, as we met Letizia, his sister who led the cooking demonstration, Mama Rosa, and Maia, Letizia's adorable and sweet eight-month old daughter.

The recipes we created were simple but delicious as the ingredients pack so much flavor. We made bruschetta with a delicious tomato spread, orange salad, lemon pasta with prawns, eggplant involtini, and fried anchovies. Everything was delicious and will be easy to reproduce at home, if only we could find as fresh and flavorful ingredients! Letizia did a wonderful job explaining to us Siracusan cooking culture and contrasting it with other regions of Sicily and Italy. We had a lot of fun in the kitchen, but even better was the dining room! For lunch, their father Santo came to join us as we all sat for a family style meal. We had wonderful conversation about food, culture, society, travel, and even got to hear some funny stories from Letizia and Pepe's childhood. It felt more like a lovely lunch with family friends than any sort of touristic class or demonstration, which is exactly what we were looking for. We finished lunch with some coffee and delicious pastries from Pepe's favorite pasticceria.

If you're looking for a more grounded, intimate, and authentic cooking experience, it doesn't get better than with Ortigia Flavour. Grazie mille per una bellissima giornata che non dimenticheremo mai!

We were fortunate enough to have 2 different days with Giuseppe. The first was with him and his family at their country home. We spent the day cooking, eating, laughing and sharing. The food we made was some of the best we ate during our trip to Sicily. The flavors were bright, and fresh and the recipes were uncomplicated. Things we all said we could do at home. Giuseppe sent all of us the recipes from the day. Can’t wait to try at home.
We also spent a day with Giuseppe at Pantalica. I was unsure of my ability to hike on the slippery stones and steep terrain, but he was an excellent guide, brought me 2 walking sticks, and I kept up. The tour was amazing, caves, tombs and some of the most beautiful wild flowers I have ever seen. Giuseppe is an attentive and knowledgeable guide.Whatever he would do, I would sign my for without hesitation. We learned a lot and had fun. What could be better?

We had a wonderful day with Letizia and her family! We explored the markets, tasted numerous local products and purchased produce for our cooking lesson. We then visited their home with Mama Rosa in charge of our cooking lesson! We learned how to make pasta (at our request) and enjoyed a splendid afternoon eating, drinking wine and enjoying the company of a beautiful Sicilian family. Highly recommended experience.

We always like to start learning about a place through its food since we are foodies. Letizia was our guide and she was exceptional in explaining the foods unique to both Sicily and Ortigia. This being our second time in Ortigia, she structured our tour to make sure we learned new things about the food and the town. We also discovered that we had taken a cooking class with her brother during our visit to Ortigia last year. We highly recommend the cooking class too! It was one of the highlights of our trip last year.
Letizia took us through the farmers market, letting us try different foods and teaching us about different ingredients that make up many Sicilian dishes. We also stopped off at several different eateries for tastings. It was during these times we got to learn about her and her family. By the end of the tour, it was like visiting a friend in Ortigia. I highly recommend this tour especially for first time visitors to Ortigia as well as the cooking class offered by her company, Ortigia Flavour. It will most certainly be the highlight of your trip.

There was a great short walking tour of ortigia city highlights with a true local! That’s when we started to eat our way around the market. Beware there’s a lot of food to eat! We had leftovers for two other meals. Arancina, focaccia, canola, all delicious!
We could ask lots of questions to Laëtizia about everything related to Sicily, Sicilian food and local and Sicilian history and culture. She was always eager to give us the interesting details and color commentary, great tour, make sure that you start with an empty stomach 😄

Letizia is true Sicilian patriot and very knowledgeable person. Really nicely connects food tour stops with history and interesting facts about Sicily and Syracuse. We’ve enjoyed time with Letizia a lot!

Whenever I go to a new place one important thing I love to learn about is the food. Food brings people together and food tells you a lot about an areas culture and traditions. Today I enjoyed a wonderful food and city tour with Letizia. We went to some local places tasting everything from pastries, panini’s and of course meats and cheeses. I loved the trip to the local market and I appreciated Letizia and her knowledge of the food we tasted, how it’s made and how it came to be part of the local delicacy. If you are in the area of Ortigia/Siracusa I highly recommend booking this tour. You will leave with a bit of history and a happy tummy!
