This is the main public square of Syracuse and is a masterpiece of Baroque architecture anchored by the magnificent Duomo di Siracusa. The square has an unusual shape like a long triangle and arrayed along the square some fine buildings including Palazzo Beneventano Del Bosco, Palazzo della Sovrintendenza ai Beni Culturali di Siracusa and Archbishop's Palace. Just to the east of the square is one of the oldest remains from the Hellenistic period, the Temple of Artemis. Slightly further east of this is a tourist information centre. As befits the main square of the city, there’s lots of cafes and restaurants as well.

It's a lovely spot with a great view of the Duomo and other nearby imp[ressive buildings. Lots to photograph here. Try some side streets to find interesting shops and buildings. Seek out smaller, winding streets to get a flavor of the older parts of the city.

So Beautiful, please do not miss it otherwise it'll be a regretful FOMO.
I believe that with the Etna and the Stromboli by night, this should be one of the places you should visit no matter what.
And even visit it TWICE!
It is amazing by daylight, but by night its is stunning, mysterious even, so special.
You just stroll the old and narrow streets of Ortigia and suddenly you emerge in this wide opened space, incredible.
Use your time there to have a coffee or a granita at one of the many excellent coffee shops there.
Priceless!

We were on our way to the Duomo Cathedral and as soon as we stepped into the piazza we were pleasantly surprised. It is rather wide and very clean. The Duomo is very majestic. It is really busy as it is a focal point and has little shops around and also restaurants overlooking the cathedral.

Wonderful and unmissable square in Ortigia.Characterized by the Duomo, the Church of S. Lucia alla Badia and several historic buildings. In and around the square there are restaurants, bars and many Shopping. In the evening the illuminated monuments make this square enchanting.

Lots of shops and restaurants surround the Duomo, along with street vendors, selling unusual jewelry items.
Hint....Do not go to the Caravaggio exhibit !
2 paintings....1 by the Master...the other by his 'school'.
Several Euros lighter, you are back out on the street!

I am an admirer of Sicilian Baroque Architecture. This ensemble of churches, public buildings and museums in this Piazza are an excellent example of this type of architecture. All have been restored in an appropriate manner.

This is a great place to gain an insight into cross-religion functionality. The building is amazingly well-preserved and of interest to historians, archaeologists and artists alike
