Another Statue
May 2021
We passed this statue as we walked up Via Vittorio Emmanuele through the historic district. Carlo V was the Holy Roman Emperor who ruled Sicily in the early 1500’s.

It sits in Piazza Piazza Bologni.

An imposing statue in Piazza Bologni
Jul 2020 • Solo
Statua di Carlo V is situated in the centre of Piazza Bologni in Centro Storico. The bronze statue was constructed in 1631 and was originally designed to be placed in the centre of Quattro Canti but it was decided that it should be placed in Piazza Bologni. It was created by sculptor Scipione Li Volsi and depicts Carlo V as a triumphant Roman Emperor. I visited the monument in late July 2020 when Covid-19 had kept a lot of people away from the city. The statue is not one of the top sights in Palermo but is worth a look whilst in the area of Piazza Bologni.

Marble pedestal dominates the statue.
Jul 2019
The bronze statue of Charles V of Habsburg is the center square of Bologna, named after Baron Luigi Bologna and not a city in Northern Italy. . The author of the statue, Scipio Li Volsi, depicted Charles V. on his return from an expedition to Tunis in 1535, as a result of which he took the fortress of La Goletta and Tunisia, expelling the famous pirate Khairuddin Barbarossa. The triumph came at a high price. Carl went into debt to the Fuggers and spent all the gold that Francisco Pissarro had looted in Peru. Visually, the monument is not a masterpiece. A marble pedestal made by Giacomo Cirasolo and Luigi Geraci dominates the statue. Charles seems not to be the ruler of "an Empire over which the sun never sets", but an ordinary Spanish grandee.

Nice statue
Jul 2017 • Couples
Nice, but not very big, statue dedicated to the Carlo V, Holy Roman Emperor and ruler of Sicily.
Very nice symbolism and high attention to details.

Don't make a special trip
Nov 2015 • Couples
We went past this several times as its just off one of the main roads. Certainly not worth a special trip, but have a quick look as you go past.

Just a statue, it doesn't even worth..
Mar 2015 • Solo
Positioned in the center of the square called Piazza Bologni, this simple statue should not be considered among the top attractions of the city. Obviously if your tour goes through the square Bologni, well, a quick visit to the statue does not cost anything, otherwise do not go on purpose to looking for it.
