My husband and I took a morning walking tour and we finished off the fun-filled day with an enjoyable cooking lesson. This review will be for the cooking lesson. For the review of the walking tour, please refer here: http://www.tripadvisor.co.uk/ShowUserReviews-g187890-d3974054-r190304229-Personal_Guide_Sicily_Day_Tours-Palermo_Province_of_Palermo_Sicily.html#REVIEWS We headed to Ballaro market to buy fresh ingredients before our lunch cookout. Coming from a totally different culture, we were keen to learn more about Italian cooking. Although tourists like us can just visit the market ourselves, it was a lot more interesting and meaningful to have someone by our side to explain their local/ regional produce. After the market, we headed to a comfortable, modern kitchen to begin the cooking proper. The cooking session was great fun and it was a hands-on experience where we made a 3-course meal. We had bruschetta, Pesto tagliatelle, spatola involtini (rolled fish), and a fruit dessert (I guess that makes it a 4-course!). Ended the session by rewarding our tummies with the delicious food and a lovely chat with Saro and Nya. We really enjoyed our time spent with them!

We booked Don Saro for the day when our cruise ship was in Palermo. He is an excellent guide! For lunch, we had arranged to make our own pizza and gelato. The restaurant used all organic ingredients and will even prepare gluten-free (if that is a concern). The chef was excellent and explained everything to us step-by-step. It was fun to get into a professional kitchen and learn a few tricks as we love to cook. And the food was amazing! Our 4 year old had fun helping measuring, pouring and stirring! She ate 1/2 of her pizza which is a testament as to how good it was, as she will usually eat one piece, maybe one-and-a-half if it is good. :)
