Jackie is the best! She was waiting for us outside of our hotel and we had a wonderful day learning from her. She is extremely knowledgeable, interesting, and fun to be with. She prepared a great itinerary for us and along with all the stunning sites she led us through, she also stopped to have lunch with us at the Mercato Ballaro Market. She entertained us by translating a lot of what the local restaurant owner was shouting as he cajoled people to come and eat at his food stand. We had a lovely day and highly recommend that others book with Jackie!

Jackie was so knowledgeable on her history of the various streets, churches, mosques, and other sites of the historic part of Palermo. She provided detailed history of the city and Sicily itself reflecting the Norman, Roman, Byzantine, Greek, and Phoenician influences. For the ten of us on the tour, we learned so much about Palermo that we have plans to expand our own tour tomorrow. Jackie incorporated opportunities for snacks at a former convent, suggested shopping and chances for great photos. Loved it! Highly recommend. Thanks, Jackie!

Jackie did a custom tour of the Jewish history of Palermo and the Kalsa district. Her expert guidance made our time in Palermo special. A true highlight was going into the city archives to see the expulsion order of jews in Sicily of 1492. I highly recommend taking a tour with Jackie for a personalized and fascinating experience. She was willing to do whatever tour was of greatest interest to us, and she was fantastic at answering questions.

Jackie provided my group of two with an exceptional 3+ hour tour of historical and architectural highlights of Palermo. A published historian and native English speaker, having grown up in Los Angeles, Jackie enthusiastically imparted a wealth of knowledge to us in a perfectly crafted tour.
Being detail-oriented and a history buff, I especially valued how she could relay both historical and contemporary Palermo and could answer niche questions. We learned so much more about every place she showed us and every noteworthy person she cited than we could have achieved on our own or with guidebooks and audio guides. She also gave us recommendations for restaurants, gelato shops and tour guides for other parts of Sicily/Italy.
I found her tour riveting, and if I could do anything differently, I would hire her for a full day or longer.

Jackie gave my husband and I a 7 hour tour of Palermo and Monreal. We visited churches, the oldest outdoor market and so many other sites. She made the city come alive for us. She knew in detail the origin and history of Sicily. She took us to sites early before the queues became long. She has written 5 books and we bought 2 of them. My husband is a history buff and he was blown away by her detailed knowledge. Jackeie was raised in Los Angeles before returning to Sicily. Her English and Sicilian are impeccable. She booked us a lovely seaside dinner as well. 5+ stars.

Jackie is tremendously knowledgeable and her enthusiasm for her subject matter was infectious. We learned so much, and the time spent with her added so much to our appreciation and enjoyment of Sicily and Palermo.

Jacqueline gave us a information-packed fascinating tour of medieval Palermo including Monreale and the Cloister of Benedittini. She is truly a scholar and a wonderful teacher. We had a lovely lunch mid day. Also, her books on Sicily are wonderful. Read them, take her tour. Not to be missed!

After spending 6 months planning and working through the logistics of our DIY tour of Sicily, I updated our itinerary and found that with less than two weeks to go, we hadn't nailed down what to see in Palermo. I skimmed back over the 3 tour books, and decided that I needed more help. A web search for private tour possibilities, yielded Jacqueline Alio, so I crossed my fingers and emailed her hoping she might be available.
In just a few days, we firmed up a half day walking tour of Palermo. We were staying in Monreale and she was invaluable offering guidance for the most reliable bus to take from Monreale which was not listed in any of the guidebooks. Later I read about delays that many other tourists have experienced by taking the guidebook bus between Monreale and Palermo.
Our adult group of 4 are keen historians and enjoyed the perspective and passion that Jacqueline shared with us. In the past, I've used Context Travel Tours for private walking tours and in short Jacqueline ranks up at the very top with the best of the best. Walking tours can be challenging sometimes in a small group whether due to ambient street noise or striking an appropriate balance between each person's physical capabilities. Jacqueline seemed to effortlessly guide us through the city's sight and adjust the pace as needed.
When the tour ended, I was wishing we had signed up for the entire day! After lunch at a local place she recommended near Teatro Massimo, we made our way to the train station to pick up our car rental.
You are the best Jacqueline! Grazie Mille.

We - two couples - are so glad for the day we spent with Jacqueline in Palermo. It would be hard to find someone who knows and loves the city - and Sicily - as deeply as she. Her historical knowledge is immense and she brings the past to life in the most engaging ways. Her explanations are rich with cultural anecdotes and she accommodates the specific interests of her audience beautifully. I think she can talk brilliantly about anything Sicilian.
Jacqueline used our time efficiently. We walked everywhere, saw and did a lot but never felt rushed. She was sensitive to personal needs and energy levels and was a delightful companion for a day. We would have missed a great deal without her.

Through our long days journey beginning in Palermo to Monreale, Segesta, Erice and the Saltpans, we literally gave our physical well being over to Francesca and our minds to Jacqueline. Through Jacqueline's extraordinary knowledge ,History came alive through all the conquerers who left in Sicily such varied monuments of great beauty and reminders of daily life- i.e. from the churches to the marketplace. Each temple column had a story, each piece of mosaic told a story, the windmill at the Saltpans, although silent, whispered its story. Having these two educated, personable, accommodating women as our guide/driver is perfection. If you are interested in taking a cooking class- just ask them. We had a "delicious" ending to our
journey. My husband and I own them mille grazie.

My daughter (AIA) and I will be in Mondello for three nights arriving May 22. We'd like a one day (or half-day) tour of major sights in Palermo and Monreale. I am 82 so can't do a lot of walking/climbing. We'll be at the Splendid la Torre with a car, but would prefer to have a guided tour of the highlights of Palermo PLUS Monreale. What are the possibilities?

Why not invest in a chair with wheels so you can be perambulated around in perfect splendour. Ask a tour guided outfit to organise both. Possibilities abound when you you think outside the town square.
