If you’re ready for a hike in wild nature, it’s going to be a very well spent Euro, don’t worry! If you expect to discover some cozy sandy beaches on the way, it’s time to return to Mondello: there will be no sandy beaches. Don’t forget to pack some fresh water and wear hiking shoes, sunglasses and a baseball cap or a hat. The hike will offer you scenic views all the way and the chance to observe some typical Mediterranean flora and fauna. It’s all about the journey, not the destination. The rocky slopes of Capo Gallo are really impressive. Then you’ll see Faro di Capo Gallo, which is an abandoned lighthouse standing at the bottom of a dramatic rock, overlooking the sea. You can also reach the lighthouse by bicycle or motorbike although after leaving the lighthouse the paths are getting wilder, so it’s safer to walk. Then you’ll see a massive boulder where the message ZONA NUDISTA (naturist beach) is painted. There is actually no beach around, just volcanic rocks popping out from the sea. The waves keep crushing against these rocks so it’s not easy to dive from here. There are lizards sunbathing on the cliffs and crabs and some other marine crustaceans hiding underneath. I kept hiking until the path disappeared under vegetation, somewhere close to Grotta d’Olio. L’Isola delle Femine was visible from that point in the background.Visited June 2020Written June 22, 2020
- johnnybaggs2017Pompeii, Italy37 contributionsWOW!! So much to see in the ParkWe actually walked on both sides of the park. The trail was easy to walk and easy to see the direction of the path. The wildlife such as dolphins, lizards and wild goats was amazing. History and natural beauty are all over this park. All in all it took all day to really appreciate all the park has to offer. Parking is easy on both sides, the trails are well maintained. The view changes on every corner!! Do some reading on the history of the land (WWII), origins, etc... You will understand more clearly why this is a Natural ReserveVisited November 2019Written March 28, 2020

We came here in early October to go for a swim. This was on the advice of the locals who felt it was better than Mondello although rocky. We took a Taxi to near the entrance, paid the fee and then tried to find somewhere nice to swim. We found several private beaches and clubs, a marina, car parks, alot of concrete, and a tiny bit of coast with high rocks. There were no maps or signposting so after walking around for an hour we left. Perhaps we should have rented bikes or got more detailed instructions but I cannot understand why anybody would want to go here.

The Riserva starts just west of Mondello. Follow the winding main roads and you'll find it easily. There are beautiful places to snorkel and swim all long the shore, both before and especially after the small marina. There is not a lot of flat space for towels, but the water quality and picturesque coves more than make up for it. If you want a more peaceful experience, go on a weekday. For the real gem of the Riserva follow the small roads all the way to the bunker, then take the path around the bend. Under soaring cliffs you'll find an amazing place to swim. There is a nude area, with "FKK" and "Nudismo" and such painted on the rocks. It has the most wonderful spot to access the water! You have to go a bit, you'll think you've missed it but then suddenly you'll see it from the now faint trail. A sea-level shelf leads to 4 meter deep water, just like a swimming pool, with lots of fish around. Not everyone is nude (guys mostly), and you have to be OK with seeing the human body, but the location is just splendid. It's quiet and people are not loud and obnoxious. This is what the Mediterranean is supposed to be, not the noisy, murky overpopulated Mondello mess. Enjoy!

A local friend introduced me to this incredible bathing spot not far from the crowded Mondello Beach. Despite being a weekend, there were only a handful of people when I went to this clothing-optional place which made it perfect. You need to be reasonably fit to walk along ledges and bends to get here but the natural beauty of Capo Gallo make it well worth the effort. Take some water and eatables - there is nothing remotely commercial here.

We visited this please having read the reviews on trip advisor and really enjoyed the walk in from The centre of Mondello all the way to the lighthouse (and beyond to the cove) taking in this beautiful reserve. Things you can expect: a 1 Euro entry fee from two chaps sat on plastic chairs on entry to the reserve, a few goats with bells on, an amazing yacht club, private beaches, a light house and private cove (this was much further round and believe this is a naturist beach though you’d have to be super keen to get your kit off as it was a challenging walk to find the cove let alone get down it to the beautiful turquoise pools for a skinny dip!) . We saw lots of wildlife and the most beautiful view out to sea. Peaceful and tranquil; a great opportunity to get back to nature after a few days of the local hustle and bustle!

Approach from the east side, and the first beach is a 20 minute walk which gets very crowded. Worth going on to the next beach, so pack lots of water, food and wear good walking shoes or boots. Take snorkeling stuff as there are accessible coves and rocky areas to explore. If possible, try to arrive at the park entrance very early to allow walking time. Parking is 5 Euros and entrance costs to the park are reasonable. We didn't stay as long and we wanted to because of the crowds. Water is crystal clear for swimming.

We have not even known that there were a natural reserve in that place, we have just walked through the beach in Mondello and arrived there. There were any indication about a natural reserve. The views vere nice, but the nudist beach is really bad placed : everobody pass by these roads and look at nude people without any discretion.

Sarò a Palermo a dicembre 2018 e vorrei visitare Capo Gallo.
