    An oasis of peace
The oriented nature reserve* (*area to be protected due to the landscape and naturalistic heritage) of Capo Gallo presents various species of fauna and flora to be protected. Unfortunately, people often see this reserve only as a bathing place, so greater environmental education is needed to make people understand the true value of the species present in the reserve. The best known species are: - for the FLORA (dwarf palm, holm oak, wild olive, sea fennel, cliff gorse, myrtle and carob) - for the FAUNA diurnal birds (white stork, cuckoo, herring gull, blue-throated sparrow, blackbird, great tit, peregrine falcon, griffon vulture* (*vulture with a wingspan of almost 3 m) and nocturnal birds (barn owl, tawny owl) - for MAMMALS (shrew, wild rabbit and fox) The signs to reach it from Mondello are almost non-existent. You need to pay the entrance fee of €5 by car. If you enter from Mondello I recommend swimming before the marina in the first cove which, although more crowded, has clearer waters. After the marina, in the second and third cove, the water is less clear and full of jellyfish during the period we were there. It's beautiful to take a walk up to the lighthouse; you find yourself immersed in an oasis of peace and tranquility (for the walk I recommend sneakers).

    Nature reserve mondello
There is 30 minutes of hiking, but the beach is initially accessible and pleasant. The other bathing places are steeper, accessing them is not open to all, it is very rocky. I recommend beach shoes, there is no drink or toilet. On the other hand, the price of 1€ for access on foot is largely profitable by the breathtaking view.

    Breathtaking nature reserve!!
About 4/5 kilometers from Mondello is this beach inside a nature reserve overlooking the sea. Sandy beaches mixed with rock but with the sandy bottom of a unique beauty! I strongly Recommendation to go before 9 am because otherwise you risk not finding a place on the sand. Iridescent colors from emerald green to dark green and then move to light blue and blue. Very nice fish fauna to see with mask and snorkel. Absolutely worth visiting!!

Another expression of nature in all its magnificence. The Capo Gallo reserve offers wonderful views with high, rocky and jagged coasts that require a minimum of effort to be able to reach the first natural pools and consequently, enter the clear waters of the Tyrrhenian Sea. Access is limited and subject to a small entrance fee but I assure you that it is worth it.

The Capo Gallo reserve can be accessed by paying a toll, 5 euros if by car. The reserve is very beautiful, an immersion in nature.
Not far from the entrance there is a cliff on which you can settle down and swim without much difficulty; the water is beautiful, the coves act as a natural swimming pool. Continuing (on foot or by car) you will also find a less frequented beach but with less clear water.
Recommended for a swim away from the inflated beaches of Mondello.

There is a refreshment point selling drinks and food shortly after the entrance m.

Capo Gallo nature reserve in Palermo, a breathtaking view, crystal clear sea. Entrance for pedestrians is only €1 while if you are with a car it is €5. We were on foot and it took about 5 minutes from the entrance to the place we chose, very doable with walking shoes and a backpack on our shoulders. Clean nature reserve with no beaches, mostly rocks and pebbles. If you are in Palermo or in the surrounding area I absolutely recommend you go there, it's a little paradise. And before heading down towards the reserve I recommend you stop at the small kiosk "la delight" in the square and have a nice mandarin granita. Never tasted better than this 🔝

Shortly after leaving Piazza Mondello you’ll enter the Capo Gallo Natural Reserve, so you have to pay one Euro. If you’re ready for a hike in wild nature, it’s going to be a very well spent Euro, don’t worry!
If you expect to discover some cozy sandy beaches on the way, it’s time to return to Mondello: there will be no sandy beaches.
Don’t forget to pack some fresh water and wear hiking shoes, sunglasses and a baseball cap or a hat.
The hike will offer you scenic views all the way and the chance to observe some typical Mediterranean flora and fauna. It’s all about the journey, not the destination.
The rocky slopes of Capo Gallo are really impressive. Then you’ll see Faro di Capo Gallo, which is an abandoned lighthouse standing at the bottom of a dramatic rock, overlooking the sea.
You can also reach the lighthouse by bicycle or motorbike although after leaving the lighthouse the paths are getting wilder, so it’s safer to walk.
Then you’ll see a massive boulder where the message ZONA NUDISTA (naturist beach) is painted. There is actually no beach around, just volcanic rocks popping out from the sea. The waves keep crushing against these rocks so it’s not easy to dive from here. There are lizards sunbathing on the cliffs and crabs and some other marine crustaceans hiding underneath.
I kept hiking until the path disappeared under vegetation, somewhere close to Grotta d’Olio. L’Isola delle Femine was visible from that point in the background.

We came here in early October to go for a swim. This was on the advice of the locals who felt it was better than Mondello although rocky. We took a Taxi to near the entrance, paid the fee and then tried to find somewhere nice to swim. We found several private beaches and clubs, a marina, car parks, alot of concrete, and a tiny bit of coast with high rocks. There were no maps or signposting so after walking around for an hour we left. Perhaps we should have rented bikes or got more detailed instructions but I cannot understand why anybody would want to go here.

We actually walked on both sides of the park. The trail was easy to walk and easy to see the direction of the path. The wildlife such as dolphins, lizards and wild goats was amazing. History and natural beauty are all over this park. All in all it took all day to really appreciate all the park has to offer. Parking is easy on both sides, the trails are well maintained. The view changes on every corner!! Do some reading on the history of the land (WWII), origins, etc... You will understand more clearly why this is a Natural Reserve

Well 20 minutes walk and you are in paradise... Maybe bit to crowdy (I walked only to the first beach) and not sandy (full of rocks) but definitely worth to go there and have a few relaxing hours. I will go there again!

The Riserva starts just west of Mondello. Follow the winding main roads and you'll find it easily. There are beautiful places to snorkel and swim all long the shore, both before and especially after the small marina. There is not a lot of flat space for towels, but the water quality and picturesque coves more than make up for it. If you want a more peaceful experience, go on a weekday. For the real gem of the Riserva follow the small roads all the way to the bunker, then take the path around the bend. Under soaring cliffs you'll find an amazing place to swim. There is a nude area, with "FKK" and "Nudismo" and such painted on the rocks. It has the most wonderful spot to access the water! You have to go a bit, you'll think you've missed it but then suddenly you'll see it from the now faint trail. A sea-level shelf leads to 4 meter deep water, just like a swimming pool, with lots of fish around. Not everyone is nude (guys mostly), and you have to be OK with seeing the human body, but the location is just splendid. It's quiet and people are not loud and obnoxious. This is what the Mediterranean is supposed to be, not the noisy, murky overpopulated Mondello mess. Enjoy!

It's 50 Eurocents to enter for pedestrians

A local friend introduced me to this incredible bathing spot not far from the crowded Mondello Beach. Despite being a weekend, there were only a handful of people when I went to this clothing-optional place which made it perfect. You need to be reasonably fit to walk along ledges and bends to get here but the natural beauty of Capo Gallo make it well worth the effort. Take some water and eatables - there is nothing remotely commercial here.
