The craftsmanship of the marionettes is amazing and it was fantastic to see the operators come out onto stage with their marionettes after the show. It made you realize how quickly we are adapted to the size of marionettes. The play was entirely in Italian and some felt particularly violent given the number of children in the audience. However, I understand that this was a traditional play and as such appreciated the performance.

What a great show!
Cuticchio family takes you into a colourful journey through the Sicilian puppet theatre tradition.
The show is a must for those who are looking for a full immersion experience of “folklore Siciliano” and want to enjoy a unique type of entertainment.
Highly recommended for both adults or kids, as this is great fun for everyone.
I strongly recommend to book in advance as the queue becomes quite busy and space available is extremely limited.
Definitely worth it!

This puppet show is a must. Spoken in Italian but language no barrier to understanding. Fabulous marionettes with dragons, goodies and baddies galore in wonderful traditional costumes with highly skilled puppeteers. The performance is enhanced by a manually operated music box !! which adds to the spectacle. Arrive at the theatre at 6pm sharp to buy your ticket (10euros) and then go straight into the theatre for the show which commences at 6.30pm

What a wonderful time the puppet show is fantastic and you do not have to understand Italian to enjoy the show it is quite easy to follow along. The children sit upfront and explode with laughter. Very few actual puppet shows left to enjoy and these are master puppeteers. The show is about an hour long which is just right.

This was a puppet show in a tiny theater. Even though it was in Italian which we do not speak, it was delightful and easy to follow the show. The show is only once a week so check the schedule. It is worth seeing.

Arrive by 6pm and buy tickets (10 euros) for a 6.30pm start. The calendar of shows is on their Facebook page. There are not a huge number of seats.
It's a fun way to spend an hour seeing something that you've never seen the like of before. The skill of the puppeteers is amazing and the reactions of the children sat at the front are hilarious. Language really is no barrier to enjoying this. Watch out for snakes (cue "he's behind you!" in Italian), beheadings and puppets being chopped in half!
Great fun for all ages.

We came upon this theater by chance and were impressed by the craftsmanship and ability of the puppeteers.
Each character had its own personality and the story was well portrayed. The show is good for all ages; not just chldren.

A puppet show or Opera dei Pupi is a must in Sicily. There are a lot to choose from and all are good but no one is like the Cuticchio Family. When you watch the puppet show you get so immersed you forget you are watching puppets lol! Even though you may not understand the dialect, the antics transcend words. Highly entertaining! It brings the kid out in all of us. My father as a child used to watch these shows as they came around the neighborhoods when he was a boy in Palermo. I can see why he looked forward to them so much. What I want to know in the last puppet show I saw in September was the soldier who got injured, Angelica? So unfair I can't see the subsequent tale and find out the next chapter!!

Just to clarify, this puppet theater was located in an alley close to the Palermo Cathedral. (We first went to a theater close to the water that was closed up.) I felt like I was experiencing genuine local entertainment which I thoroughly enjoyed! Tickets were cash only for this family run event.
This whole production has stayed in the family for 3 generations including all phases of it, creating and making the puppets, making costumes for them and the set, to making them work. The gentleman who talked to the audience before the show was a 3rd generation puppeteer with his granddaughter (5th generation!) who translated in English. The entire show was in Italian so I didn’t understand a word. But it was awesome! There was lots of foot stomping for effect and sword fighting among puppets. The puppets were killed/hurt in hilarious fashion. Kids sat up front! Afterwards, the audience was invited to see the puppets and take a look backstage. We were so glad we made this event!

I wanted to see this because it is so much of Palermo and Sicily's history. I loved it and think everyone will enjoy such a visit. You might need to book but it's worth it. A real fun night out.
