I visited the Ganzirri lakes on a cloudy April afternoon.
Precisely, I did on foot, counterclockwise, the whole “Lago grande” circuit, thus receiving a feeling that I consider not superficial; all the more so, since I had previously tried to read up on the nature and history of these two singular water bodies.
I started from (and returned to) the southwestern end of the "Great Lake", the one most in contact with the Ganzirri hamlet, which gives the lakes its name.
And indeed, this end has a veritable character of a pleasant urbanized lakefront. It's impossible not to notice, proceeding on the southern bank (where the sidewalk is in direct contact with the water mirror, with a beautiful landscape effect), the large number of properties lining the road, which have to do with the products of these lakes (mussels and other seafood); whether it is shops, or whether it is restaurants that promise gastronomic delights starting from these products.
Then, as you proceed (the complete circuit of the lake is a little less than 4 Kms) these properties thin out, and urbanization generally decreases sharply; until, at the opposite end of the lake (north-east) the landscape appears almost rural. Moreover, the path is well maintained, with wooden fences and wooden guardrails that separate the sidewalk from the road.
My return route, on the northern shore, was somewhat different. The sidewalk for most of the route doesn't directly overlook the lake, but it's separated from it by a rather dense vegetation, which only at times allows a complete view. In addition, the road is busier than that of the southern bank.
As for the "Small Lake", I had a fleeting impression of it by driving along part of its north-eastern shore, which allows an overview of the artifices for breeding mussels.
Overall, a visit to these lakes (also easy due to the frequency of the urban public bus service) is an experience not to be missed for those visiting Messina. It's a good idea, however, that the visitor documents a minimum of the lakes to better understand what he / she sees.

A Tranquil little village built around this shallow lake where fishermen keep their little old wooden boats. The lake is surrounded partly by a nice waterside walk cafes, little houses and part by reeds and vegetation. It is situated right at the tip of Sicily about 20 drive north of Messina near Torre Del Faro. Lovely place to stop for a little walk and a peaceful break.

the salt water lakes of ganzirri are a haven for wild-life and are justly protected by law, but the area around the tourist paths is very dirty
still very relaxing for walking on a sunny afternoon

Pretty area with plenty of cafes and restaurants, watched the fisherman getting she'll fish for the shops. Saw fish jumping out of the water, lovely location
