I went on this tour as part of a Viking Star Cruise Excursion. We had a local guide (actually, he was from the area, but he also lived in the United States part of the year and was a guide for Rick Steves). I wish I had known more about the museum before we went, but I did know about... More

The full name of this place is the Museo Interdisciplinare Regionale di Messina. It's a little museum, mostly populated with paintings by Sicilian artists you've never heard of. The amazing standouts are two monumental works by Caravaggio - * The Resurrection of Lazarus * Adoration of Shepherds There's an interesting story board about Caravaggio's flight to Sicily and about the... The new wing is not open, and looks like it might fall down before they finish it. There is no bookshop or place to get a snack. 2 Caravaggios made up for any inconvenience, however. Compared to other Italian museums, pitiful.

The museum is awkwardly located, confusing to enter and most of it is under renovation. That said, it is still worth the 8€ admission to see the last two paintings of Caravaggio's masterful career. He may have been on the run from the law, but he obviously found enough time to infuse these two masterpieces with the drama and pathos... More

Difficult to locate. Its not even on the GPS we were using but a nice collection of local pieces and two Carvaggio works. While they are not his greatest pieces, they are his work and worth seeing.

This museum is small and the price was a bit more than I expected. But it does have 2 famous Caravaggio's . We had the museum to ourselves and our 2 children (9 and 7 yrs old) seemed to enjoy it as well!

We visited this lovely museum in September 2014 and were truly impressed. Other reviews rightly praise the 2 wonderful Caravaggios, an Antonello and some other works. They are stunning. This is a small museum where you can wander, and think, and re-view for as long as you like. For a viewer, it is just about perfect. While it is a... More

On this trip we were on a sort of Caravaggio mission, and that is reason to go to this museum. As the name implies, the museum has art, all of a religious nature, by artists from the region. Most of the paintings were Madonna and Child or Crucifixion scenes. The exceptions were the two large and impressive Caravaggios, one of... More

We visited at the end of a Thursday afternoon and had the Museum to ourselves. This tiny location houses two of the Masters works. We have 20 minutes with them alone and this is one of the few places you can get up close to Caravaggios (DON'T TOUCH!) The rest of the Museum has some other good historical works both... More

We used the local tram to visit the museum, there are some beautiful paintings but the masterpiece has to be the Caravaggio, simply stunning and a must see.
