Don't recall ever seeing a bell tower with an astrological clock prior to this one. Go with a guide to get a full explanation or read up on it in advance (or when there if you have free data with T-Mobile; the coverage is generally great in port cities in Europe)

We unfortunately, didn't make it at the clock tower at noon, but the sight was wonderful. The stunning detail is a must see. The church in the square is a must see as well. Try to be there for noon, if you can. Beautiful square to relax and enjoy.

This amazing clock tower is in the heart of Messina, and there are so many features for you to look out for. The Gold painted firures that move to ring the bells, the zodiac signs, amongst others. If you visit messina, then this should be one of your MUST DO's. The square can be quite lively with tourists, but you... More

This is a wonderful attraction to see at noon when the figures move. It is within easy walking distance from the cruise terminal.

This was one of our "can't miss" sights on our brief stop in Messina. Built in 1933, it is one of the world's largest mechanical and anotomical clocks in the world. From the initial roar of the lion near the top of the clock to the completion of the final chime, it seemed to take 10-15 minutes for the clock's... More

We visited this bell tower and astronomical clock as part of a tour of Messina and it was well worth it. The Lion roars 3 times, the rooster crows, and different figures move through the tower. Each day is a different set.

Messina Cathedral has a beautiful and interesting campanilla. Daily at 12 is organized a small show for about 10 minutes: at every floor of her appearing figures moving in rhythm music. Hundreds of spectators attend; it is very fun especially for children and old women. Campanilla can be ramped up paying 3 euros. Along with the tower is a restaurant;... More
