Taromina and Savoca From Messina Shore Excursion
I prefer to book directly with small local tour companies when possible. I am glad that I chose DISCOVER MESSINA for my tour to Taromina and Savoca.
I first planned to take a tour with them back in 2020, and when I had to cancel that tour, they were quick to process a refund. I had the same experience when I had to adjust the number of people in my recent booking, and when I had to change the date of the tour. I received prompt responses to my emails, and they were patient in answering all my questions about the tour and their policies.
I finally got to take a tour with them this week, and it was a very enjoyable experience. Katia, one of the owners, was our guide. She was very friendly, extremely knowledgeable, enthusiastic about sharing information, and her English was easy to understand. It was fun to spend the day with her. I enjoyed the cookie treat on the bus, and we were all given a bottle of water. We also got to taste other cookies and “Sicilian Pizza” at a local bakery. A nice addition to the tour.
I visited Messina on a cruise ship, and this tour was less expensive that what was offered by the ship, and the group size was considerable smaller. It is a much better option to book the tour with Discover Messina, and support a local tour company. The information about the tour, when and where to meet, and how to locate the guides was clearly communicated. They sent an email voucher, which was easy to add to my iPhone wallet. They had several tour groups going out that morning from cruise ships, and the guides and the buses were waiting for us when we disembarked the ship,
Taromina is a charming village. Wander the side streets to get away from the crowds and all the shops and restaurants. There is a lovely public garden at the end of one of the side streets that has great views—a 10 minute walk form the main street—just watch for the “Public Garden” sign and directional arrow.
Savoca was much smaller, calmer and far less “touristy.” And if you are a fan of the first Godfather movie, you will enjoy visiting the bar and the church and walking on the road where scenes were filmed.
If I am ever back in Messina, I will definitely book with Discover Messina again.
