I think that there is a pattern to experiences in sicily, namely if you really want to see the beauty and best of it, get out of the coastal towns, which are uniformly unkempt, poorly maintained and rather depressing. However, if you are prepared to do a little research there are some really special gems amongst this and one of... More

There are lots of beautiful things to see around the city but to go inside you generally have to be there at noon and if you're on a tight schedule from a cruise ship that isn't always possible. But at least walk... More

Nice from outside but impossible for visit when you want. Close at noon when we arrived. 'Come later, it will be open'. Later we were on the ship.

You can simply walk in the duomo and enjoy the view and the people and the clock that moves every hour. And the good thing is that if u feel like eating you will find all kinds of restaurants... Visited as part of a led cruise. This was easily the highlight as not too much to see. The street back from the port houses the square with a fountain, cathedral and clock tower. Cathedral very peaceful and beautiful inside. Once a day at noon the clock displays movement with music. The lion roars, cock crows and figures move. Lasts... More

The original Duomo of Messina dates back to Norman times into 12 cent. Several times damaged in medieval fires and earthquakes and reconstructed afterwards, the main destruction happened in 20 cent. First in a great 1908 earthquake when it was almost completely demolished, and after in 1943 after heavy WWII bombing. Therefore, today we see a relatively new structure less... More
