Because we always seek accommodations that offer us the opportunity to cook, markets like this are especially appealing. Oodles of fresh fish choices. We bought fresh swordfish (spada) Sea bass (branzino) and sea bream (orata) for cooking at home. But you can also buy fresh fruits and vegetables as well as nuts and much more. Proprietors are so friendly, even... More

For all the food lovers out there, especially when it comes to fish and seafood, visiting this market is a must! Such a lovely place, full off colorful fruit displays, fresh fish and seafood on ice, cheeses, ham and plenty of other traditional Sicilian foods! If you are traveling to Catania, make sure to visit this market situated close to... More

Our hotel recommended that we have a visit at this fish market but he didn't go into detail as to why, so it was a fun surprise to see how it was. There is a large area just a short stroll from the cathedral where they set up loads of tables and stands to sell fresh fish. The scene is... More

Accidentally walked through here on the way to the hotel and was immediately back there to buy lunch, we proceeded to buy lunch there every day. Amazing selection of quality food.

We went here both days of our stay to buy bread cheese and meats before taking our haul to eat in the square! The prices are reasonable, you can sample before you try, and you don't need Italian skills to get by. Try to find a english speaking stall to get exactly what you want. And don't be afraid to... Part of the soul of Catania. Not to be missed. This fish market is lively, loud, and fun. It goes on and on and around and around. You can find any kind of fish caught along the local coast. It's all packed on ice and fresh and some still alive! They supply all the restaurants and locals with fresh seafood... More

It was a surprise to visit this fish market. Far from being a tourist trap (our perception) it was visited mostly by local patrons with sellers trying to outsell their neighbour. Typical Italy! Make sure you visit this place.

I went there and bought 2 kinds of fish and shrimps and some other thing and were all good, and not so expensive, plus you can enjoy the mood of the place and take some photos

This market is fantastic. I went early in the morning to watch them set up and mid day at its busiest. The atmosphere is vibrant. The stall owners are like one large family. The variety of fish and produce is amazing. What is most impressive is that the transformation from an empty square to a bustling market takes less than... More

Absolutely loved shopping here during our stay in an apartment, getting fresh fish ad vegetables every day. The stallholders were superbly helpful and the atmosphere was very special indeed. Seeing snails desperately trying to escape their fate as dinner was one particular sight, as were watermelons the size of a baby!
