The architecture is so different to anywhere I have ever been... the volcanic black basalt being the main material used for building. The church of Saint Agata is really worth a visit. As beautiful inside as it is outside. Beautiful.

I am glad I popped in but I found the small baroque church, Badia di St. Agata, better. This is a free attraction and the outside is quite impressive so do check it out. It isn't a type of visit where you need lots of time.

Nice piazza, but would not make a trip to go see it. We stopped in Catania after touring all of Sicily, so this piazza was nice, but nothing special.

This is the place where you can start the adventure. Before you go, seat and enjoy Sicily sweets and espresso at Caffe del Duomo, looking people and all nice buildings from piazza- Palazzo degli Elefanti, Il Duomo, Palazzo dei Cherici, Fontana del Elefante and Fontana del Amenano. Take a breath and go To north towards Amfiteatro Romano, Giardino Belini, or... More

Cleanest & coolest place in the entire city. Some impressive and well kept architecture adds to the square's charm.

The cathedral in Catania sits in the old town and is fantastically beautiful. It looks great lit up as the sun goes down. Inside has fantastic art and architecture. Its a must do if you find yourself in Catania.

Do go into the cathedral; you might think you've seen enough churches, but this one will definitely impress. Well-proportioned piazza, the interesting elephant monument, and the "must see" fish market nearby. Always something happening in this piazza! But avoid the touts for the Yellow Hop-on/off bus unless rye prepared to be disappointed!

The piazza is at the heart of Catania and the most vital character is the elephant fountain. The elephant is and was supposed to bring good luck to the people of the city. It is one of the most interesting piazzas I have visited for sure.

This Piazza is very similar to other squares in Italy, with great view and high pedestrian traffic. You can enjoy your gelato and buy some souvenirs here.
