Welcome to Catania. In the city centre, this is where you find the Duomo and the main square, with the famous elephant statue and lots of local shops and restaurants and bars. A must in Catania.

Lies where Via Etnea and Via Vittorio Emanuele cross. The square boasts many large baroque buildings. There is a well known fountain built in 1736 in the center. The duomo di Catania is on one side of the piazza. In one direction you can see Mount Etna. As Italian piazzas go this one is not great, and hence, the rating... More

This is the obvious place to start sightseeing in Catania. Visit and climb the dome of Chiesa della Badia di Sant'Agata, see the Elephant statue symbol of Catania, visit the duomo, see the Fontana dell'Amenano, go behind the fountain to the fish and produce market, There is a little train ride which will give you an overview of the city.... The piazza is the nicest part of Catania. It is wide and open, filled with hawkers selling candles and St Agneta tat. There are oodles of dogs and children, particularly because I went on a Sunday after mass. You can get a good look at the cathedral and the duomo from there so most people in the piazza are taking... Beautiful piece of architecture, central in the city. Nice place around with sympathetic small eating places.

This was one of my favourite parts of the city, it is a meeting place for young and old and bustling any time of the day. Somewhere to sit with a coffee and try the delicious cannolo at Café Duomo, while taking in the brilliant architecture of the surrounding buildings steeped in history. A step through through the arch will... More

We decided to have a day trip to Sicily while we were on holiday in Malta. We were warned by our rep before visiting that it is dangerous in Catania but as we had already booked flights we decided to still go. The tours were double the price and it was cheaper to fly so we still went ahead. Our... More
