Piazza Duomo in January

I was able to visit the Piazza several times during my stay. I love walking around. It was perfect to access the stores and restaurants near by.

In Italy you can basically wander into any ol' church you find along the way. And some of them are pretty darn amazing! However, I thought the piazza duomo is best enjoyed outside, with a cup of granita. The inside of the church is not that special. Although there are some remnants of old roman ruins visible in the floor... More

The baroque architecture surrounds you on every side; all walks of life come thru and people watching is a high priority. You can eat gelato, drink coffee, eat pizza, or by something from the pharmacy. In the center is the elephant obelisk. I spent several hours here drinking coffee and enjoying the Sicilian parade of lovelies.

Was a good 30-40 minute in line. Only one way up and down. The way down was probably closed due to refurbishment. Was a great view from the top, but a lot of scaffolding made possible pictures not good. At least we got to see the masterpiece of a building. We only visited the rooftop.

This duomo is definitely stunning from the outside and it sits in a very beautiful but busy plaza area. We did not go inside when there as there was a mass going on.

A peaceful edifice to pop into during the day for a meditative break no matter what, if any, religious persuasion and the art work and architecture are wonderful to behold.

Near the fish market and a bustling place. Where you can get a taxi or tourist trips around Catania, to Aetna etc. Beautiful buildings and several bar/restaurants.

Popular place in Catania. Like many piazzas. Catania was a bit of a surprise. It was a much nicer city than I was expecting. At least the tourist areas were. Visit Sicily. Include Catania. The best food prices and it has the amazing fish market.

This is a beautiful plaza just a short walk away from other sights and very close to the market which is fascinating to see. The cathedral is very beautiful although it was undergoing some restoration while we were there.
