The coastline north of Catania is very different from the sandy beaches towards the south. Lava streams from Etna reached the sea here during past centuries. The rock formations are stunning. The vegetation of cacti and succulents is special. Here and there are coves where people can reach the sea and boats can find shelter. Along the coast there is a promenade that is excellent for a walk.

Lungomare done everything with the tourist bus because we only had 1 day available. The whole coast is rocky with few beaches but many clubs and restaurants that are certainly packed during the summer days. Beautiful villas overlooking the sea and many hotels. The coast ends with a beautiful castle

Ognina seafront is one of my favorite places of Catania, one of the beaches of the historical city, the lava rock that accompanies entirely along this part of the city. Many times I have been here, it's always a pleasure to stroll the waterfront or sometimes even a simple run up and down this boardwalk. For bathing I prefer the area beaches where there is sand, but the sea is much more beautiful and clear here. There is the possibility of free swimming and in some places there are structures to allow the placement of towels or whatever.
Also nice in the evening, there are many banquets and vendors selling stuffs, or a drink at one of the bars along the way.

If you are in Catania best to avoid seaside. It is so sad what we people made to it. It could be so breathtaking, lava rock, water but unfortunately there are so many papers, plastic bottles, cigarette butts, broken glass.
It’s better if you check fishmarket, old town, Park Villa Bellini, and restaurants on Via Santa Filomena, and don’t except to have a nice walk along Lungomare, and swim by Via S. Giovanni Li Cuti, because rubbish will kill the idill.

We were interested where do all local people go with their kids as we only see them in bellini park and no soft plays or other kids friendly places. So the taxi driver told us about this place snd here we went:) There is fun fair- hand made art and craft stalls- some food stalls and kids activities such us basketball , football, mini vespa rides, face painting etc etc . I dont know if its every day as we went in Palm Sunday but it was nice - different and more local:) In the end kids enjoyed it so why not:)

It's a relaxing drive along the sea with lovely spots for a quick snap with your phone or cam. There are some quiet beaches along the way as well.

Very busy on a Sunday morning with large amounts of traffic and cars. Had excellent typical sicilian sweets from Quaranta. Excellent!

Very well organized seafront, especially in the part dedicated to the fitness area and children's area. The cycle path is very well maintained. Very special to be practically on the sea, look up and see Etna covered in snow!!!!
