Impressive gate, but nothing around it
Oct 2020
No reason to specifically for this gate to travel out there. I walked through it regularly and there is a big square behind it, but not much for tourists.

Lovely details
Dec 2019
It is definitely worth the walk to make your way down to the Porta Garibaldi. The stripes are unusual and the details wonderful to see. The area doesn't have much else to offer but we enjoyed the Porta.

Worth the walk
Nov 2019
The Garibaldi gate is visible from the other end of Garibaldi street, close to the Piazza Duomo. It takes a 20-30 minutes walk to it but the road is full of interesting buildings and shops. Nice for taking pictures.

Photo pitstop
May 2019 • Friends
A great first stop in Catania to take a photo, but the city center was on the opposite side so the pitstop was very short. The structure is very impressive, but the place it's located not that much.

Lava

The gate is supposed to be one of the icons of city. It is a historic doorway to duomo square. The gate's material should also be Lava like Elephant statue at Duomo. Also a good point for a photo. Worth to see but tough way to walk !

An icon although could do with some restoration
Nov 2018 • Business
I loved this door a perfect icon in to the city although like most of the monuments in Catania it really needs some restoration

Good photo stop
Nov 2018 • Friends
The Garibaldi arch is very nice. It is a good photo stop. Through the middle of the arch you can get a picture of the cathedral dome

Impressive but not the walk to
Nov 2018 • Couples
The structure and the different colours of the materials are impresseive and the light shining through adds to it. Only spolit by the walk to itt along via garibaldi, not the prettiest.

Start of street.
Nov 2018 • Solo
This is the entrance gate of a long street that ends in Duomo square. Gate made of lava but It needs some TLC to spruce it up. Unless in this part of town I would not walk to see it.

Striking
Aug 2018 • Couples
Made from dark lava stone and light limestone the striped effect is striking. A Phoenix on top represents the rebirth of the city after the destructive earthquake. It's a very long walk up the hill. You may not feel that it was worth it.
