My husband and I travelled from London for my birthday in October 2019. We arrived at the Teatro Bellini for the concert to find it closed, the concert had been postponed by 1 week (too late for us!) and we had not been informed. The only info was a cancellation notice posted on their website on the day of the concert.

To my request for a refund, they responded: “The theater is going through a difficult economic period and we had to move the dates of some concerts.
We will soon refund your tickets and in any case by the end of the year..”
It is now March 2nd 2020 and Teatro Bellini still owe me 80 euros and have not replied to all my subsequent emails and phone calls since Oct 2019.

Theatre building outside is amazing but the tour was very disappointing. Firstly the guide told us her English wasn’t up to taking it but she’d reduce the cost to €4.50. Then when we arrived at the auditorium there was a rehearsal going on so we were only allowed in for a minute. One couple were insisting on a refund which we should have done too. A proper tour would have been worthwhile so do check.

Attended this superb theatre for a performance of Handel's Messiah. The performers were excellent including a great choir. The Hallelujah Chorus was stirring and encored. Memorable.
However never in my experience of attending live performances worldwide have I before come across the absolute crassness and utter bastardry of the audience. Many filming the performance on their phones. Arguably understandable. But scrolling through photos of babies and farm animals? Texting god knows what to god knows who. An argument that held up the second half of the performance. And then the halitosis.
Extraordinary.
The theatre is a must see. But Catanian audience? Not a good look.

Visited on a Monday. Not open. Could only view the outside, which was a shame. It is in need of a good clean as it is a sensational architectural design. Touring the inside would be amazing. Guided tours every morning (except Monday).

Hello,
I’m going to visit Catania between 22-27 May and want to buy tickets for the performance on 24th or 25th. I tried through the net but it is quite complicated. Do you think that there still will be tickets when I arrive there? Or does someone knows a website I can use, preferably in English ?

Thank you,
Tinko

I booked and prepaid 2 tickets for the performance of "Andrea Chenier" on 24/05/2018 via the website of Teatro Massimo Bellini". The site referred me to VIVATICKET, who sent me online tickets after payment had been effected. Later I was made aware, that the opera had been rescheduled to Oct/Nov. I requested a refund, as our vacation in Catania was in May. VIVATICKET informed me that my booking fee was non refundable, and that I should contact the theater for reimbursement of the € 110 paid for the tickets. I contacted the box office of the theater on 13-05-18 for a refund. They asked me to supply my international bank details two days later, which I did. I reminded the box office of the outstanding refund on 23-07. They replied 2 days later, that the responsibility for reimbursement of tickets for the cancelled performances, had been removed from the box office and was now in the hands of the administration of the theater and they had no information about when payment would be effected. I have since emailed segreteriamministrativa@teatromassimobellini.it on 09-10 & 28-11, without receiving any reply. I have now completely lost faith in the theaters will to refund the money for tickets bought for a performance that was cancelled by them. Therefore I feel an obligation to warn other visitors to Catania, not to trust Teatro Massimo Bellini by paying for tickets in advance.

The guide spoke Italien for 19 minutes everytime and then english for 30 seconds. How can that be fair.. And to pay for a guided tour you don't get anything out of is not okay

Our enthusiastic tour guide, with a beautiful sense of humour, led 6 of us on a complete tour of this late 19th century gem of an opera house modeled on the Opera Garnier in Paris. She demonstrated the acoustics, sat us in the royal box and recounted the story of Roberto Benini filming here in "Johnny Steccitio". The place is open between 10:00 and 13:00. Just go and ask when the next tour in English takes place.

The acoustics are fantastic and it is well worth making an effort to get a ticket to a concert if there is one on when you are in the city.
One could only buy tickets through the box office for the performance that we went to see/listen to. . ie not on line. Purchasing on the morning of the performance meant we were on the 5th level. From here we cold still see the musicians and it was an amazing evening of classical music. The interior of the theatre is worth seeing for itself if there are operating them.
